So I have a Gen 1 - Week 1 iPod Touch. Yesterday the home button decided to stop working. When I say stop working I mean I can press it down, hear the click buttons make when pressed and then nothing happens.

This has to be the most annoying this I've experienced. Everything works - It's just that when I want to switch an app, I need to restart the iPod.

I called Apple Care and they pretty much laughed in my face when I asked help. Being 180 days out of warranty. They also told me it would be cheaper to buy a new one.

My problem is that I am planning on buying an iPhone in a few months. (whenever the next refresh is.) I don't really want to spend $200 on an iPod that will only get a few months of use.

What are my options here? Am I expecting too much of Apple to ensure a year and a half old product works after being treated well? I've spent over $4,000 in their store over the last year. Should I be worried about all of those products breaking in a year and a half? (Not trolling, Venting)

jailbreak and install dock. It will allow you to switch between applications without going to the homescreen (using the home button) that can be a work around until you get your iphone.

I guess I really am screwed. The home button is broken and b/c of that, I cannot enter DFU mode. Do you happen to know of another way to get into that mode?

Other suggestions?

Hey

I'm having the exact same problems, and it actually happened on 11th same day you posted about your - creepy.

Like you, over the last couple of weeks I noticed that the home button wasn't responding when I pressed it the first now, and since the 11th it was stopped working all together. You hear the click and nothing. Again, it has been dropped a few times in the past but not for a very long time, so i know its wasn't something i done.

Just doing a restore right now to see what happens. Wish me luck :)

One of my friends has the same problem, but he's well out of the warranty period.

His home button feels like it's pressed down 100% of the time, almost like it's stuck there. He's opened it up, and tried fiddling with it, but no success.

Is there another possible fix, or is he just outta luck?
