Broken iPod

Whenever I try to use my iPod, the screen appears with a folder and an exclamation mark and nothing will happen when I try to connect it to my computer. Does anyone know of a way to fix this if it is fixable.

i'd just wipe the iPod clean with the iPod updater...

I'd say look at the Apple website?
