Broken Pioneer DVR-111DBK??

I decided to upgrade the firmware on the drive (I forgot what the original FW was).. I have it in an external USB 2.0 box... I loaded up parallels and upgraded to 1.29... The drive did not want to read or write and it makes a funny squeeking sound.... I then downgraded using The Dangerous Brothers 1.06 firmware.... Same results... Then upgraded to 1.23, same thing... Then back up to 1.29 and still the same results...

Did I kill my drive???? 😡

Was there a disc in it during the patch?

I can't remember... Would that make a difference?

Potentially as the system (either Mac OS or Windows) could call the disc during the update. Also I don't know if there are any compatibility concerns with flashing on a Mac using Windows (even if it isn't being emulated).
