The g5 is strapped for usb ports as it is

"Strapped for USB ports"? It has 3 on the back and one on the front! What isn't strapped? 5? 6? 10 ports?

The AGP is just that, cheap. It does not have the same results.
The PCIe models have MUCH faster and more graphics options, faster and cheaper RAM, FAR more expansion card options, much faster system bus, more on-chip cache, more energy efficient, a faster optical drive and TWO Ethernet ports!

Looks like cheapness is all the AGP has going for it. :D
The truth hurts doesn't it? You can deny it all you want but it won't change reality.

My pc rig has 8 usb ports. My G5 only has 1 free usb slot after keyboard, printer, and backup usb drive. My 2.5" usb drives need 2 usb connectors, convenient eh?

Not much difference in performace between an AGP 7800 GS and a PCIE 7800 GT, nor is there much difference between an AGP 1900 XT and a PCIE 1950 XT.

By your logic, since 99% of desktop users dont need wireless. So what makes you think they need dual nics for advanced networking?

I am done man. We could argue all day it seems. The fact is the G5s are extinct. Buy one today and get 2 years out of it tops before you want to upgrade to snow leopard. 500 or 800, your call, but like I said, I think the cheaper one is better at this point - its almost a throw away computer when you think about it.

Anyways, no hard feelings.

@OP: Sorry buddy for the thread jack. Good luck with your purchases!

the winner is: zmttoxics, very nicely done, i agree with you.

No winners or losers. It was a debate of opinions and little facts. Could have gone on for ever, and I am glad it didn't.

I hope it helped the OP in his decision making though. Cost is always a priority concern, and you should always consider the maintenance cost and not just the purchase cost.

The loser is: you, for not understanding the argument.

You need to start watching your personal insults as I believe its against forum policy.

That is perfect proof that you are completely clueless about what you are saying.

And in actual fact, you saying that is more proof you still have no clue. With that generation of cards, the BUS is not the limiting factor, the gpus were. Two cards, same gpus, different buses, practically same performance. You would see a variance of like +/- 5-10 FPS when playing gamings. Todays cards require so much power and bandwidth that agp would be absurd, but 2005 it wasn't an issue. Not to mention, if you are buying a G5 now, it is most certainly not for gaming.

Now, can you let it go? You were wrong, and continue to be wrong every time you reply.

EDIT: Actually, never mind. I am just going to unsubscribe to this thread. Such a time waster proving you wrong all the time.

There was no insult in that, only fact. You should read the rules before you hop up on that podium.

Thank you for more proof. :)

You would see a variance of like +/- 5-10 FPS when playing gamings.
Which, guess what, means there is a significant difference.

You were wrong, and continue to be wrong every time you reply. Please post another reply to further prove this. :)

You are just going to GIVE UP? That is a true sign of failure and lack of confidence in your position.

Such a time waster proving you wrong all the time.
Delusion on your part does not make you right.

AGP 8X is slightly faster then PCIe 8x. They still make AGP video cards and they still perform the same as their PCIe counter parts. Once your past the 30FPS mark in video cards, you'll never notice the difference. 55 on one and 45 on the other makes no difference pal. Like I said, give it up.

More proof that you don't know what you are talking about, thank you. Good thing the powermacs use 16X PCIe for the graphics card. If i ever want to restrict my graphics card's performance I'll be sure to move it to a slower slot. :)

They still make AGP video cards
They still make motherboards with parallel, serial and PS/2 ports, whats your point?

Once your past the 30FPS mark in video cards, you'll never notice the difference.
Even more proof, thank you again.

Looks like you are the one that has given up.

but he's already won...

Apparently posting cited legitimate facts is wrong. I also better quit my day job of being an unix / linux / apple sys admin and stop going to school for Computer Engineering (I'm in my final year - but hey, apparently I was wrong).

Thanks for the support, I hope some part of it was informative to the thread starter.

Good advice, you should take it. :)

Game over, you lose. Zedd was 100% right, especially in his last post.

Even the part where he mistook a mini pci card for a pcie 1x card and called me an idiot for it?

I am beginning to think this thread should be locked.
