I have a 16 inch MBP and the screen broke. I don't have applecare and the quoted repair price is not worth it to me. I'm going to just sell it as-is.

I can login to the OS with an external monitor and sign out of my account turn off find my mac. But I need to somehow wipe the installation and don't know how to do so from within the OS.

Neither internet recovery or recovery mode show up on my external display. Is there any way I can somehow wipe the drive from within the OS?

I was able to get it erased by putting it in target disk mode and wiping it from the other computer.

I'm not sure about APFS, it might be unrecoverable if you just format it, but HFS... I used to just format it, reinstall the OS, then overwrite it by dragging copies and copies of Star Wars Prequels and folders with copies and more copies of folders of star wars prequels on to it... consuming the avail drivespace on down until it wouldn't let you copy another 1kb txt file on to it. Then reformat, reinstall. If the next buyer tries to run recovery software on it to see if they find anything personal, all they'll get is 1TB of the worst star wars tributes ever made. Jokes on me, I didn't know JJ Abrams was coming to town.
