Hey guys, i bought my iMac a few years ago, its an Intel Baed 20" 2.16Ghz white iMac, a few months ago my iMac just turend off, and when i tried to turn on the computer i have no image, the screen is just off, however, i can hear the volume sounds when i increase and decrease the volume, and stuff, so i think that the computer is okay, so i took it to an authorized apple place to repair it and they told me the whole "Logic Board (Motherboard), is broken so they asked like 90% of the price i paid for the machine just to replace the MoBo, which is ridiculous, so i went to another place to repair my Mac and they just couldn't fix the computer, i don't want to trash my mac just because i have no video on my screen, i tried to plug in an external monitor but i just can't configure it because i don't see anything.

Did someone had an experience like mine? What did you do?

If there's no video on an external monitor it's either the logic board or the video card. Your model has an integrated video chipset, meaning the video card is not removable from the board. The logic board is the most expensive part of the computer - it's what does the computing - which is why the quote was so high. Out of curiousity, how much did they say?

They said ~80% of the original price of the computer, so if it was 1599US$ they asked for ~1200US$ (I live in mexico)

When I had the same problem with my imac I let it cool for a couple of days in a dry place... I plugged an extern monitor to it and just try to reboot over 2 hours.... and it worked... after thatI changed my display configuration to get mirror. It work for about 4 months and now all I see it's colors stripe on the main display with my desktop under... but my extern monitor is clean without a trouble since I've plugged it

The only way you could get the price down is to buy a logicboard on eBay and replace it yourself. You can search for the part number for your models logicboard at Apple Palace. Then search that part number on eBay.

Even on eBay these prices are rather high. You would likely be better off buying a used iMac on eBay and selling yours as a parts computer. Which usually get pretty good prices on eBay.

I am just hoping that nothing bad happens to my white MacBook. My wife's HDD was dying, so we brought it to the Apple Store and they fixed it because she has AppleCare. Our 24" iMac died recently and they fixed that one too (power supply). I am two months outside of the 1-yr window so I can't get AppleCare for it now.
