Cheesy lines are what make Bond who he is. Some of Roger Moore's lines at the end of The Man With The Golden Gun are absolutely great:D The newer films just don't seem to have that "aura" or something. It will be interesting to see if/how the general opinion of today's Bond movies has changed 20 years down the road. For example, if Goldeneye or Casino Royale will hold up as well as Live & Let Die.
You think Live And Let Die holds up well? Interesting, I'd pick that as one of the more obviously dated-looking ones (hard to get away from that shooting in 70s America). But I'll still watch it. I think Goldeneye is going to hold up very well, all the other ones since will be forgettable; they're already all starting to look the same to me and I haven't the patience to watch them over and over like I can the classic Bonds. It's damned depressing is what it is. :(

I never joke about my work, 007!

Must say i'm delighted to hear that Pierce is returning. Every generation has there own Bond but being born in 1984 meant i landed between Roger Moore reruns and Tim Dalton. Having seen all the Bond films one can't deny Connery his dues but Pierce Brosnan is Bond for me.
After the travesty that was Die Another Day it would be great to see him go out on a high. The storylines really do need a good kick up the @ss though.
One thing though, they have to keep the product placements or else i wont know what gadget to buy next. That Philishave leaves your skin silky smooth.....:)

They should cast Sienne Guillory or Caitlin Keats as a Bond girl.

Bond girl choices in the past have been pretty awful. ie. Denise Richards, Halle Berry and that actor on Desperate Housewives.

I hadn't heard of either of the bond girls you propose, but after a quick google image search, I completely agree with you ;)

Denise Richards has to be the WORST bond girl ever... she is hot, but as a scientist???

Not just a scientist...but a nuclear physicist (!) IIRC. Some writer was very high.

True, but the scene where Bond meets her does include some classic Bond dialogue:

Dr. Christmas Jones (D.Richards): But the world's greatest terrorist running around with 6 kilos of weapons grade plutonium can't be good. I have to get it back or somebody's going to have my ass

James Bond : First things first

IMHO, if you want to see Denise Richards, got buy Wild Things on DVD. She shouldn't be in a Bond film.

I agree that Live & Let Die is rather dated. I guess what I meant by "hold up well" was to not completely suck when compared with the classics. I agree that Goldeneye will probably hold up quite well. I just kind of pulled Live & Let Die out of thin air as an example, because it's one of the better films, and probably my personal favorite.
It will be interesting to see if it actually turns out that Brosnan is going to do another film, and if it will not suck. Oh, and Q, can we get Bond another Aston Martin please, or at least a Lotus Esprit that turns into a submarine? :D

AppleAce hit on something important. Need I even say it?

Who's playing Bond doesn't matter as much as what gadgets they have down in Q Branch!

i think it'd be a pretty good time for bond to get back into a mustang....

Is there a Bond film that doesn't have dorky dialogue? To expect an intelligent thriller is to lose the essence of the series.
And that would be a bad thing...how?

Seriously...many movies, from the Indiana Jones films to The Incredibles, seem to do a better job of balancing action, thrills and humor. I gave up on the Bond films a long time ago, because of their cookie-cutter plots and uninspired dialogue.

Nah, why should Bond drive a slow $28,000 Mustang while Bond can drive the 2006 Corvette Z06 with the LS7 engine producing 500 HP, 0-60 in about 3.8 seconds. It looks better then Aston Martin which in respect is a Ford as well. Now for the Bond girl, the Pontaic GTO with the LS2 engine with 400 HP would be suitable.

Surely you're not trying to suggest the Corvette is better looking than an Aston Martin?!!

I'm sure you didn't just say that James Bond should be driving a Corvette (!!!!!) over an Aston. No you can't have done...surely, I must be imagining it...

Rather that or the new BMW M5 also pumping out 500 horses. The Corvette Z06 will crush the Aston Martin in speed. The Z06 will get him to places in style and get him there fast. Since Die Another Day went American for cars( Ford owns Aston Martin) why can't he get the Z06 and the Bond girl get the GTO? Actually, Bond should drive a Suburban. ;)

I didn't say it was a bad thing. I said that if you're expecting a Bond movie to be an intelligent suspense story, then you're holding it up to the wrong standard.

I just heard that instead of Pierce Brosnan pimping BMWs and Omega watches they're resigning Sean Connery to play Bond while having clever product placement for Depends undergarments.

Bond Girls...

I wonder if a certain

Keira Knightly

would be a popular star? ;)

Should keep edesignuk busy for a while with pics from the promotional photo-shoot!

All well and good, but you forget that Bond is British, and the series always had a little patriotic ring to it. Having Bond Drive a Corvette would be like having the US president ride in a Lexus Limo - it just looks wrong.

I thought it was bad enough giving him BMWs - I love the Z8 but it's James Bond! He should be in a Lotus or Aston Martin. Or a TVR - that would be cool.

Pierce Brosnan Out As James Bond, 007

Pierce Brosnan Out As James Bond, 007 - AP

NEW YORK - A single, surprising phone call and it was over. That's how Pierce Brosnan says he learned that his services as James Bond would no longer be required.

"One phone call, that's all it took!" the 52-year-old actor tells Entertainment Weekly magazine in its Aug. 19 issue.

Brosnan starred in four Bond films. He says that before they stopped negotiations, the producers had invited him back for a fifth time.

"You know, the movie career for me really started with Bond," says Brosnan, acknowledging that by the time "GoldenEye" premiered in 1995, he was already 42.

He then starred as 007 in "Tomorrow Never Dies" (1997), "The World Is Not Enough" (1999) and "Die Another Day" (2002).

His departure from the role was a "titanic jolt to the system," says Brosnan, followed by "a great sense of calm."

"I thought. ... I can do anything I want to do now. I'm not beholden to them or anyone. I'm not shackled by some contracted image. So there was a sense of liberation."

Brosnan says he's grateful to have had the role, but adds: "It never felt real to me. I never felt I had complete ownership over Bond. Because you'd have these stupid one-liners — which I loathed — and I always felt phony doing them."

He plays a foulmouthed, skirt-chasing hit man in the upcoming film "The Matador."

"(For this) to come on the heels of my departure from the world of Bond is sweet grace, to play this one as a farewell to that chapter in time — it certainly wasn't planned."
