I went today and got my iPad replaced. I've waited to exchange for the past 2 weeks for another 32G LTE but they were sold out in 7 of my surrounding apple stores so apple genius gave me brown box replacement.

Anyone else have any luck w brown box replacement? Are these refurbished ones?

UPDATE: Photos! I probably should have taken them in ambient light but thats when there appears to be less tinting. So here are unbiased photos taken on my iphone w 100% brightness.

I finally found a winner and its not yellow. I compared it to others at apple store. lol.

What do you think of these photos? I took 2 pics of the apple homepage flipping the ipad on both sides.

I got a brown box replacement. At this stage in the game, it's too early for them to be refurbs. They are simply new iPads packaged specifically for replacing exchanged ones, without creating the issue of what to do with a secondary retail box and power adapter, since exchanges are often performed without the customer having the original box and adapter on hand.

My brown box replacement was worse than the iPad it replaced.

These polls trying to pinpoint how to get a good screen, be it by week number or box color, are a waste of time. It's a crapshoot.

My local geeks say that these brown box units do contain some returns so you are really getting what someone else rejected. :p

Apple has no shortage of the refurbs with it's OCD buyers. They simply give you what the others rejected till it sticks or you get tired of trading.

Funny, this apple geek said their cherry picked for people who don't want any more problems. Lol why keep pissing off the same person w another faulty product. All 32G LTE were out in my surrounding 7 apple stores for the past 2 weeks and this was only way I could get a replacement ASAP.

Likewise. We should lobby Macrumors for a separate iPad sub-forum where those of us without OCD can discuss iPad-related matters without having to scroll past endless dumb threads like this one.

Excuse me, just bc you may have found the perfect iPad that you 'think' has no issues. Keep your rude comments to yourself. There are plenty of photos on here w tinted screens.

I like how the perfect iPad thread hardly has any photos.

The brown box are Refurbs but they are inspected and the whole outside replaced so they are as good or better than new. I have 0 problem with Apple Refurbs now anybody else who sells you a refurb that's another story.

That's because life's too short, son. Most of us are just getting on with enjoying our iPads, and leaving endless threads poring over the excruciating minutiae of perceived defects to the OCD sufferers.

Seeking your perfect iPad is a complete waste of time. Apple builds excellent products. NO manufacturer builds perfect products. Period.

If your Mac/iPad/iPhone or whatever has a genuine defect, then return it.

Those who abuse Apples excellent customer service by returning products for reasons other than valid faults are the consumers responsible for assuring prices will remain higher than needed.

The color of the box matters only to those obsessed.

This thread was created w the intention of seeing who received a perfect screen w either the brown box or white retail box. There's been enough threads w people bickering over people being OCD. If the issue can easily be seen in photos, guess what - the faulty screens do exist!

Again keep your personal comments to yourself. Only state if you received a replacement and are content w the new iPad and whether you got a brown or white box.

No one expects all 3 million iPads to be perfect however I want a perfect iPad bc I'm paying for it. No one wants to read for 3 hours on a pink or green screen.

Just bc I wanted to do a simple poll out of curiosity doesn't mean we're obsessed. There's a poll for build week which also ended up being a crap shoot which I suspect is the same w brown vs white box however being a forum member I have the right to ask.

For those on their 3rd and up replacement, maybe they will just ask for brown box now. I'm happy the genius gave this to me or maybe I'd be on my 5th and wasted time. Also, 32g are out of stock in at least 7 of my surrounding apple stores in the past 2 weeks so the genuis was trying to do me a favor. It's been less than a month of the release date so even if my iPad was a return it works very well and better than my white retail box iPads.

This is a new topic and its more informative than should I buy a smart cover or should I get 16 or 32G?

My first launch day retail boxed iPad seems to be perfect. However, if a problem develops the refurb iPads are fine. I've had refurb iPhones and they seemed like new.

This is what I thought. How does apple have the time to process and recase the returned iPads and then reship them to all the stores in 2 weeks? My guess is it would take at least three months after launch to see refurbs back in apple stores.

There are plenty of reports on here of people receiving scratched iPads in white retails boxes. So whatever box you get, just be happy you receive a working iPad w no screen issues :)

Sounds good to me, I do expect high quality with the high price of apple, but that's what I got so no complaints here.

why would there be a reason to post a picture if it perfect..... Just to show off?

Everyone who has 'perfect' iPads has enough time to comment on all the threads for people who got defected iPads and argue constantly w a paragraph response. So yes post your photo then.

For me, like a 1 to 2 sentence response while I'm doing other things. But I do hope you find your perfect iPad. If mine had some of the defects people are describing I would probably exchange it too.

I had a 32GB WiFi iPad 3- came out of the box with a minor mark on the rear casing. I eventually sold it after a week (for other reasons).

Bought a 64GB LTE iPad and this one seems perfect. Since you seem to be very insistent on there being photos here you go.

No issues with screen quality with either device- not sure where you're pulling 'there clearly are issues with the new iPad screen' from. And this is coming from a fairly OCD person.

Do keep in mind that we get out of a brown box or a new sealed box is not indicative of what you'll get. It's really a luck of the draw kind of thing- that's why this thread is pretty much pointless.

I love how OCD gets tossed around in all these threads. Completely ignoring whether or not there's actually a product defect, do people not realize how rude that is?

Just because there's nothing wrong with your consumer electronics product doesn't mean you should go around telling anyone who has something wrong with theirs that they have an anxiety disorder. Jesus.

They are lying. Apple will not replace a defective iPad with an iPad returned by someone else.

Thanks for posting photos. I did not mean to imply ALL iPads have issues just that there are defective new iPads out there. There probably are 70% decent iPads out there but everyone else is arguing that no such issues exist at all and everyone who does have a tinted screen etc is OCD.

White boxes that have ipad on the front are refurbs as well white doesn't indicate new necessarily.

Thank you! Sorry I want my $800 iPad to not have pink or green all over the screen when I'm reading. This does not make anyone on this forum OCD.

Apple quote:
"The best display ever on a mobile device."

Would drive me insane especially with the hype of the "retina display" if I had to put up with pink/green/yellow etc. This model is ALL about the experience of the display, so I have to agree totally with you there and doesn't make anyone OCD for returning.
