Hi! Im new to Mac and I just bought a used MacBook Pro to DJ with. So in Windows you can sort by most MP3 tags in the explorer, but I can not do that in the finder. So is there some other program that can do that? I can not use iTunes for that, I need to to arrange my music folders and not just sort.

    Thanks in advance!

I'm confused. You said that in Windows you can sort by ID3 tags. Then you said later that just sorting isn't good enough. You also said without explanation that you can't use iTunes. It's not clear to me what you really are doing, and what you are trying to accomplish. Can you be more clear please, because the standard answer is to let iTunes manage your music. That's what it's good for. Underneath the UI, it's a big database program that keeps track of your music, lets you edit ID3 tags, and sort based on them.

There are also a lot of DJ apps in the App Store that probably are worth checking out. I'd think they have some ID3 tag management built in, but I don't know about that.

Oh, Im sorry. I was not clear. So first of all what i meant by sorting not enough is, i need the sorting to be in a file managing app. So like in explorer i can move files, in my DJ programs that can sort on ID3 tags, i can not move files. In finder i can move files, but not sort. I need a mac alt that can manage files (move, del, etc) and sort by all my tags. Maybe i can do that in iTunes. But i rather not import 40 gb of music in to iTunes. Honestly I dont trust its performance and managing skills enough to handle that size as well as Traktor does it.

    Does that make sense? :)

Yes it does. First off, you may need to consider changes to your workflows, since you're switching platforms. But I understand that you're comfortable with the way you've always worked. So although I am not familiar with any specific products that do what you want, there is a Finder replacement app called PathFinder (http://www.cocoatech.com/pathfinder/) that is kind of like Finder on steroids. It's worth checking out.

Also, there are two good resources for Mac apps that you should consider searching when you have needs; 1) The Mac App store, and 2) www.macupdate.com.

Well I would like to not have to rearrange my whole library to not rely on year as a category... And while I can sort by year in iTunes, it's not really convenient to drag song out from there in to folders.

I've tried PathFinder, did not do what i wanted. Thanks anyway :)

Sorry I could not help. How do other Mac DJs manage their files? Ask around?
