I have a problem with both Chrome and Firefox: they won't restore the tabs from a previous session after a restart. At first I thought there was something wrong with Chrome, since it's my primary browser, but now that I noticed that the same thing happens with Firefox, I think the problem can only be with OS X. Curiously, Chrome is able to restore the tabs from a previous session if it crashes; when I close it properly and restart the Mac, nothing happens. Am I missing something? I'm a Mac newbie, so go easy on me if the solution is obvious. :D

When you say close it properly, are you closing the browser window(s) before quitting the browser? Or quitting the browser with the windows still open?

I close the window and then choose quit from the dock. Should I be quit through Cmd+Q instead?

Yes. You need to have the window open when the browser quits for session restore to work properly.

Leave the windows and tabs that you want restored open. Cmd-Q or Quit through the dock. Session restore can only restore what windows and tabs were open when you quit the application.
