Today, I was brushing my teeth, toothbrush in my left hand. Where my Apple Watch also sits. After 2 mins, it said: ‘looks like you are doing a workout’.

I already had the impression that the Watch thought I was working out while I was only brushing my teeth. Apparently it detects the movement of my hand and interprets it as running. After brushing my teeth, my workout ring always seemed a little bit more full.

After it suggested I was doing a workout today, it became 100 per cent clear that it misinterprets brushing my teeth.

Has anyone had the same experience? Pretty annoying actually. It’d be stupid to have to take of my watch every time I brush my teeth. This is supposed to be smart tech! And I tried brushing with my other hand. That really did not go down well :)

Yeah, I get the same when... uhmm... brushing my teeth, sure! Let's go with that!

Jokes aside, I've never had my AW prompt that I'm doing a workout, even when lifting weights and stuff (though I'd never manage to do that for more than 5 minutes in one go ). Same with brushing my teeth. Remember that it doesn't just go on movement but also on heart rate. Might be worth checking the rate if it prompts for a workout.

Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.

Was it raining? :)

Not even a sprinkle.

I recently went swimming with my watch on. I dutifully turned on the water protect option (or whatever it's called), and shortly thereafter got a notification that it looked like I was swimming...did I want it to count towards my exercise. Of course, the screen is locked when the water thing is turned on, so...what huh?

there is no such option, that I'm aware of.

So did you not start a swimming workout before you locked the watch? That's what I do.

No such option as what?

I did not, because I was not doing a workout. Just paddling about.

OK. So the watch is doing what it's supposed to do. It noticed that your heart rate was up and you were doing an activity. There are 2 swimming options, 1 for laps and one for open swimming. I did get the notification about swimming once when I was moving in the rain. I think it must sense water getting in or around the speaker.

I got that this morning. I have a hand crank coffee grinder and it showed up for the first time! Made me laugh!!

That happened to me running up stairs chasing my dog this past weekend.
