Ive had to replace two of these because the plastic hinges broke. I wouldn’t recommend it tbh.
Best Buy. Walmart had it for $189 and BB price matched it for me. I have their total tech as well at BB so AppleCare is included.Where
Does any third party vendor use the smart connector? I don’t think I’ve seen one keyboard other than Apples that uses it
Perhaps the last?⚕️on the planet bragging “What’s a computer” ?These things make the iPad heavier and more cumbersome than a laptop. Who wants to deal with that?
Cost. Must be quite costly and I doubt unless you have larger economies of scale it is worth it. Whereas Bluetooth is widely available and much cheaper to use.Logitech uses it, but other than that - yeah, it’s strange. Not sure why.
It could be a mac, except in the shape of a bookIf only Apple made a lightweight laptop..
They were pretty chill about refunding. I think I had mine about 45 days when refunding. It lasted about 35-40 days before it broke. I hadn’t even left the house with it yet or done any sort of travel. Just sitting on the couch or at the kitchen table, and about half the time I wasn’t even using it and had the simple Apple folio on which is better for casual use and drawing.?Sigh, after only having the 12.9" Max+ for a couple a days, the critical comments are making me strongly consider putting it back in the box for a return/refund. I'll give it until Monday and decide.
I can probably live with the weight, but the reliability issues, and durability issues (as reported by others in this thread) are concerning as it isn't a cheap product.
Is there anyone out there with long term experience that is happy with this device? I know when one is content with a product it isn't as tempting to speak out as when you are not.
I want to love the Magic Keyboard with my 12.9, but I would give it maybe 5/10. My issues:
1) Top heaviness. When it's on my lap and the chair is not super low, the keyboard bounces as I type. I find it really unstable/uncomfortable for lap usage.
2) Weight/thickness. It's thicker and heavier than a MacBook Air, about the same as MacBook Pro. Suddenly my tablet is not so portable.
3) Battery. My 2018 iPad Pro really takes a battery hit with the keyboard. Only get 2-3 hours max when using the keyboard, again negating the battery advantage the iPad used to have over laptops.
4) Reliability. When using certain apps like MS Teams or even on some webpages, the Magic Keyboard flat out stops working. It's not a great experience to be presenting on a call and not be able to type or move the pointer. This has happened to me fairly often and usually at the worst times.
5) Material. This is the least of my issues, but it's just not very pretty or durable for such an expensive device. I have a few big scratches/gouges in the plastic covering even with light usage.
Hope a redesign addresses these.
Yeah... half the reason the Magic Keyboard is so awesome is because you don't need to think about it at all... it just works, and while it's working, it also feels great to use. I totally balked at the price of it initially, but it's seriously one of the best peripherals I own.
I really love MK, except for it’s weight, however I’ve been experiencing persistent unresponsive behaviour when using Pages app. Any help?Same. I have used it since it first came out last year and it works perfect with my M1 12.9 as well. It has held up really nicely as well, and the extra USB-C port is a major bonus to the MK.
When I am done with school, I’m going to go for the 11” iPad Pro with Magic Keyboard combo. I almost sent my 12.9 M1 back in change for the 11” with Magic Keyboard, but I love the mini LED display and the extra screen size is nice for using Split View which I do quite a bit.The new version of the Brydge keyboard for my 11" iPad M1 2TB is a big jump over the prior version. It has the new feature of supporting the iPad in vertical mode which is handy. Still beats a 13" laptop on the mini "table" on an airline.
BTW. It functions like a Mac but with cellular capability that is still lacking on Apple MacOS devices.
I think negative comments without using the device are pointless. Conjecture versus reality.
This video is from August 2020, the 11" Brydge Max+ wasn't even out yet, and the reviews of the 12.9" that I've seen have been positive, stop spreading fake news.
I bought my wife an iPad Air 1 week before the M1 Macbook Air was released. She wanted a keyboard so she went to the Apple store and bought whatever keyboard fit the 2020 iPad Air. Then the M1 was released and between what the IPad + keyboard cost we could have bought the MacBook Air.If only Apple made a lightweight laptop..
Because I wanted the drawing experience occasionally for my professional use, I got iPad Pro, with MK, thinking it would also be a convincing “laptop” for my wife. The inconsistent app behaviour and the iPad iOS limitations have surprisingly frustrated her to a point she sometimes prefers to do stuff in iPhone.I bought my wife an iPad Air 1 week before the M1 Macbook Air was released. IOS apps don’t work well and have trouble upscaling screen size so it probably wouldn’t have been a perfect solution.
I got a 12.9in iPad Pro and Magic Keyboard case in 2020 but I’m HIGHLY likely to buy the alleged 2022 Macbook Air redesign as soon as it is released.
Work issues a high end MBP to me (about to get a M1 Max 16in soon). For personal uses, I don’t need a lot of laptop anymore. I thought this iPad Pro setup could be that replacement but it is simply inferior to just buying an M1 MBA at this juncture. Worth it just for the bigger trackpad that isn’t so clicky. The M1 transition killed the iPad Pro laptop‘s advantages with battery life and noise (fanless).
Problem is when you put it with keyboard you tend to use it as a Mac, and it gets frustrating. iPad shines when used as tablet, specially with pencil. Hand notes and revisions work great. All these are great but the software is major limitation, unless all you do is web surfing.
You linked to a video from last year, before these keyboards were even out, let's go Brandon.I'll trust the duo who's been reviewing Apple accessories since before you registered here before I trust anyone who uses the term "fake news."
