    GROUPED SHAPE SKEWING BUG (?)

I noticed that if I join 2 shapes (far right) and manually skew the PARENT shape (in this case the SQUARE), the CHILD shape WILL NOT comply to the manual skewing (as displayed here). No matter what I attempt in terms of transforming, I get the same result. This apparently is common throughout all vector based apps I've tried (including iPad).

I only posted here as I've seen other Adobe posts...it is what it is.

    Your question contains your answer.

First, you’re not actually joining the objects, you’re just grouping them. To join the you would use the pathfinder tool (unite) which would essentially make your 3rd picture (far right) into a trapezoid like shape with a rounded middle on the left side.

Secondly, if you are skewing the parent, then the child is not going to skew, as you’ve only selected one object of a group. However, if you have the entire group selected and choose to skew, then all of the objects contained in the group will follow.

This is why it doesn’t work in any vector program you’ve used. Make sense?

P.S. I’m thinking the mods will move this to the graphic design sub thread in due time.

As I stated in my post, I already tried all PATHFINDER possibilities...none work. As for JOINING...that is for joining PATHS...something totally different. The actual and partial solution is to SHEAR the shapes...this seems to work somewhat. Thanks for your suggested answer though.

Perhaps you might be a bit more descriptive in the future then, because when you said "I noticed that if I join 2 shapes (far right) and manually skew the PARENT shape...." The shapes you have shown above aren't "joined" or united as its called in illustrator. If they were, you would lose the stroke on the ellipse that is in front of the square.

I wasn't the one that brought up joining, you were. And the fact remains that if you only select a one object, you're not going to affect anything else in the group with it.
