This morning I reinstalled some older games/apps I had in my purchased list that I've not played in a while. They showed up properly in Launchpad and ran fine.

This evening however, waking up my Mac, these apps suddenly were missing from Launchpad. Searching in Spotlight shows no results. They are still installed according to the App Store and run fine. In Finder, under Applications, I've come across some strange "just say no" symbol in the icons of the missing apps. The Get Info shows nothing wrong, no error displays if I click them (the game/app runs).

What happened? Crash? backend dump? what?

Can you post a screenshot of the Get Info pane?
Normally you get that icon overlay when an app is incompatible with your system, e.g. a PPC app on an Intel machine.. or more recently, a 32-bit app under Catalina.
