I've recently acquired an iPhone 8 and noticed exactly the same behavior of this video:

My phone is on iOS 11.1.1. Initially, I've restored an iCloud backup and, after noticing that bug, decided to restore with iTunes and start as a new phone (no backup restoration). The bug persists. That wasn't happening on my old iPhone 7 Plus.

Enabling Reduce Motion OR Reduce Transparency fixes (actualy it's a workaround) the issue.

I've ran graphic benchmarks (GeekBench 4 Compute and Basemark Metal). The scores are OK and on the same level of the reviews I've read throughout the internet. I've also ran some graphic intensive games (like Rival Gears Racing) and didn't notice anything wrong (no artifacts), actually the performance is great.

It's important to note that this bug doesn't happen anywhere else. All the other transparency animations/effects are OK (like Safari title bar, 3D Touch, notification panel, Control Center etc.).

Anyone have any idea? Has anyone seen anything like this before?

It’s the same as when you switch tabs in safari and go back to an already loaded/viewed tab. iOS is loading a photo of the screen (like what you see in the app switcher) rather than the contents of the screen.

It’s always done this, but the antialiasing seems to be stronger than before (adding blur to text) and it’s a little slower on older devices.

It has sped up a bit from iOS 11 to 11.1, so it would seem Apple is working on it.

I still notice it a bit in safari on my iPad Air 2, but not as much on iPhone X. I wonder if the stronger antialiasing is being applied due to differences with LED and OLED displays and resolutions.

I understand. But, have you ever seen the effect shown on the video before?

My previous phone was a 7 Plus. My wife has an SE. Neither of them shows this bug/effect.

I've found some other people with this exact bug on older iPhones (like the 6 of the video).

Anyway, it really looks like a software bug. I've already done a restore (through iTunes) and didn't load any backup, so it doesn't seem to be a bug stored in my backups. I'll just wait for a fix from Apple.

Also, I've submitted a feedback to Apple.
