Last night I left the screen door open and a bunch of tiny friends flew in. A 4-5 mm tiny bug crawled into the vent of my new MBA. Are the vent covers small enough to prevent it from crawling in?

its probably able to get it...
a lot of bugs should be able to survive inside as long as the laptop doesn't run "hot" (aka high rpm on the cooler.. i'd guess 40 + degrees C. ) but IF its inside, and dead... you won't be getting it out.
If its still inside, but not dead you can just hope that its not laying eggs or crawling inside the display... 😛
If your really freaked out there is one possible way (although rather nutty)
Turn off the machine. Put the machine in a very dark closet. Put a light source in back at the vent so that only the vent is going to be getting much light.
At times, some bugs will trope. It might go to the light.
I would want to do that first and but I'd open it up and clean it out if I were you. I am only saying this because I repair computers, and once found one that was filled with dead insects inside of it. I forgot what was wrong with it, but it was not easily fixable (board probably went out). 😱
