bug in iPhone 3G mail app? please verify

I tried it and it doesn't happen on my iPhone 3G with the 5A347 firmware. I tried typing it exactly like the example, interesting though.
 
Confirmed!!

I've had this issue since day 1 with my iPhone 3G. I just today experienced it in mail whereas previously I was experiencing this issue only in SMS. It's completely and utterly annoying because it essentially renders two MAJOR features of the iPhone useless.

I hope apple fixes it soon, I've sent them a message about it and I went to the apple store where the "genius" told me that it's a known bug and apple is working on it.

This is my first iPhone and I must say that it's contaminating my experience.
 
Further criteria

Here's what I've discovered.

In order to repo the bug, you must type a capital after the period the first time.

In other words, xy(manual period)(cap key)Z

If you accidently type a lower case letter after the period, backspace, and then type in a capital, it doesn't runaway when you backspace. Type in the capital the first time, it does.

At least it's done it for me about ten times in a row.

This problem: "iPhone Backspace key gets Stuck On"

I have had this problem for quite some time. You never know when it will happen, or why.

The only thing I have discovered that will STOP it from deleting your ENTIRE message, is to type, type, type..... As fast as you can, begin typing letters.

For example, press gggggggggggggggg And then, suddenly, it seems to interrupt the backspacing.... before it has a chance to delete ALL of your hard work.

Perhaps this is their "official" best solution..... as this problem has existed --- like so many others --- since the very first versions of the firmware.... and is still present in the latest versions of both the Original iPhone AND the 3G models.... today!

Forget about giving us super sophisticated modern technologies.... like.... Copy & Paste..... for example.... or...... Search or Find.... If you could just fix the simple "Backspace Key Gets Stuck On" bug, that would be tremendous. Too much to ask?
 
Yup, I reproduced it.

Funny bug.

Of course, I never noticed it because I never use the period key.

I prefer the double space method to get the period in there.
 
Actually, I cant believe that this was reported way back in July and it *still* hasn't been fixed!
 
Same thing happens to me. It didn't work the first time when I pressed the space bar twice to do the period. But if you put in the period manually then it happens.
 
This has happened to me many times before just didn't know how to reproduce the bug. I thought my phone was acting weird at the time but yah I'm able to reproduce it. I'm on 2.1 jailbroken.
 
Reproduced it as well. I'm on 3G with the latest firmware. Very funny, and potentially aggravating bug.

Edit: and as was said above, it only works if you manually add a period and then a capital letter. Double spacing (to generate a period) and then backspacing will not produce the bug.

Edit #2: the bug also seems to work with other punctuation, like a question mark, a comma. I haven't tried anything else, but I suspect that it's ANY punctuation (although it looks like the ' mark does not generate the bug, and yet the " does... weird).
 
Is there a fix in the pipeline?

I've reproduced it as well both accidently and on purpose. I'm on 3G with the latest firmware. It never does this when I'm working on a short email ... only one that I've spent much time composing! This is an aggravating bug when it happens.

Anyone know if Apple is working on a fix and if not, why not?
