I have a contact named "Ben" in my phone. When I search "Ben" in messages, it does not show the contact "Ben", and it doesn't even show messages between us with his name in the text.

It's exactly like Ben is blocked. What's worse is Ben uses an iPhone / iMessage. Same with some family members. I search for "Grandparent", and my contact named "Grandparent" does not appear at all. In fact it says "No Results" "Check the spelling or try a new search". I have to go to their contact "Grandparent", then tap the Message bubble form their contact page and voilà, our messages will appear, but never in search.

This does not apply to all of my contacts but an alarming amount. There are certain search words that won't show up either that aren't names. It started with an over-the-air data transfer from my previous iPhone. Updating to iOS 26.1 did not fix this. Am I the only one?

It’s not abysmal when it’s only affecting you. It’s a bug and my Messages search works just fine. And don’t recall seeing this issue mentioned on any other threads either.

Please stop with sensationalizing titles. If you have an issue just say so instead of clickbait titles like these.
