I have two MBPs, both of which have problems, so I'd like to take the parts and combine the two machines into one. I'm planning to use all the guts (logic board, hard drives, etc.) from a 13" early 2011 MBP, and put them into the body/display/battery from a 2009 MBP.

Any reason that wouldn't work? Any differences in the iSight camera or battery or anything else that would mess me up?

It seems like I should be able to just move the parts from one machine to the other, but if the batteries or cameras or speakers from 2009 aren't compatible with the 2011 hardware, then I might have problems.

Any thoughts?

I would have thought that all the parts would be compatible, however they may have changed connectors or moved them, also possibly moved where the screws go on the logic board. I would look on ifixit and Mactracker and look for YouTube vids of people taking apart both models.
