Hi all,
Sorry if this has been mentioned already, but I couldn't find anything in the search and wanted to know if this was just me...

I have OS4 Beta4 installed and when triple-tap the sleep button from the lock screen it activates an all white screen with seemingly no purpose. I'm wondering if Apple decided to build in a "flashlight" function to put to rest all of those tired flashlight apps in the app store... or if this is simply a test function that will be removed when it leaves beta.

Can anyone else confirm this in OS4?

Hi, yes, I meant the sleep/wake button. I lock my phone so that it's at the lock screen, and then press the sleep/wake button 3 times rapidly. The screen just goes solid white. Then when I press the sleep/wake button or the home button again, it goes back to normal (the lock screen in this case).

I have a 16gb 3GS by the way.

Just realized something.
This may create a white screen on the 3G and 3GS, but on the 4th gen, it'll probably light up the LED on the back of the phone. I guess we have to wait and see. I'm surprised nobody else on Beta 4 has answered yet. I just saw this video on 9to5Mac and it reminded me of this thread:

As someone with an unrooted Nexus One (google doesn't allow this functionality natively) who has always wanted to use his LED as a flash, I welcome this addition if it comes through. It would be massively useful for me.

I think it maybe a bug, as i'm running OS 4 Beta 4 3GS 32GB, it doesn't work.
Had it happened once just by pressing sleep once to unlock phone.

Is it consistent for you?

On my 3GS, beta 4, I can confirm that I see this as well. I can't speak for a 3G, but I tried it on my 2nd gen. touch, and it works the same there. Interesting find, and hopefully intended as a quick-access flashlight -- not a bug.

I wonder if you're unintentionally taking screenshots. Do you have a bunch of unintended screenshots on the camera roll now? I can't reproduce this, but last time my screen went white it was from the screenshot.

Nope. It's not taking screenshots. It seems it might be pretty functional as a flashlight function, too, because it looks like there's no time limit on it. I can do the triple-click to get the white screen and it stays white and bright until I hit the button again to take it back to the lock screen - it doesn't fade or shut off the screen when it's not been touched for a full minute (as is set in my preferences).

Weird. I can't reproduce this in beta 4.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_0 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/532.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.5 Mobile/8A274b Safari/6531.22.7)

I can confirm that this works everytime i try it.

iPhone 3GS 32gb running beta 4.0...
