Built-in Microphone setting resets by itself

My microphone's Format (Hz) setting, accessed via OSX's Audio Midi Setup utility, keeps resetting to the default 96khz, after I've set it to 44.1khz. Does anyone know how to resolves this?

I don't think this relevant, but just in case, I am using an Audio Interface connected to this Retina MacBook Pro.
