iPad Pro Bummed first iPad Pro 11” warped

Why do you need advice on this? Do what you feel is best. If that includes returning ten iPads until you find the straightest one, do it. No one else is bound to care ultimately.

And to the OP: I had a 10.5 and then upgraded to the 11inch. Ultimately returned the new 11 inch. Then sold the 10.5 and decided to get a MacBook Air. In the end I decided I was done with such flimsy devices and I think in your case, you shouldn't have to accept a warped iPad. I'd return it and exchange and if it happened again, not get one again
That’s up to you and your individual needs. Amazon usually has pretty good exchange/return policies.
I would go with the original iPad 1, Youtube shows it is far more sturdy then the latest iPad, and as flat as the Earth

I bought the 10.5 recently and it is of course perfectly flat. It has the same basic structural design you see going back to the iPad 2 and it’s pretty proven at this point, it works, there is some flex if you really force it but there are no weak points, it wants to be the shape it is.
The new design is clearly different and has forces acting naturally on it just in the box that want to pull it out of shape; it’s pretty obvious that the structural integrity just isn’t there. It’s flawed, and Apple will eventually address that with the next model. In the meantime, buying one is a risk in my opinion.

So I’m your opinion I want a tablet for reading because I have an i9 MBP 2018 that’s my workhorse wanted to get a tablet to do reading on and note taking for class ... would the 10.5 with retina still be plenty powerful? I won’t be editing photos, maybe taking iPad photos and editing them, but that’s it. Mostly notes, reading and Netflix
In my opinion the 10.5 would be fine for you. I have similar needs except that i do work a lot with photos (not so much editing but downloading from camera and sharing etc) and I chose the 10.5 over the basic iPad because it has a healthy 4gb of ram and a still very decent processor. It’s more than capable of doing anything I need it for now, and it will be good well into the future with iOS updates etc. The screen and speakers are very similar to the 11” still (promotion, True Tone etc), and you can add a Smart Keyboard and/or (original) Apple Pencil for notes if you need it.
I just feel like it’ll be so outdated ... but hopefully not I have to decide by tomorrow ...
Meh, it’s a current model and supports most of the same technology. It’s still overpowered for most of the applications you’re taking about. But if you want the thinner bezels, you have to have the newer design, and everything that goes with that.
I felt the same way when my 12.9” arrived warped, but I returned it and tried again. Glad that I did because my second one is great and it’s now my favourite Apple device.
Having said that, I also still have the 10.5” and it’s a great iPad too.
Personally, I’d try again for the 11” and see how it goes. If you are not satisfied then go for a 10.5”.

In your situation, I would return till I get a straight one, or better yet find an Apple Store and don't leave the premises till you have one you are happy with.
I mean you haven't mentioned anything about budget restraints, so yes, the 2018 pro is better than the 10.5. It will have the internal specs to run iOS 15 or later. The bezels are way more attractive with less wasted bezel space. The screen will show movies a bit bigger than the 10.5. The new 2018 Pencil is much better. I would call the 2018 Pencil version 1.0 (the old lightning charge/pair thing was an awful joke in my opinion) and they finally came up with an elegant charge/pair system. ...Those would by my reasons.
If your question is durability: I don't think theres any hard evidence that the 2018 Pro is less durable or bends more easily. (Every year some YouTubers make ad revenue off deliberately destroying iPads, but I haven't seen any video show actual evidence of the iPad Pro 2018 being less durable). The only real issue is that there is larger than usual margin for manufacturing errors. Some new iPads arrive bent. And this would be noticeable the instant you open the new box. So just open it and check before leaving the store (thats what I did. Mine is perfectly straight).

I hate returning things period! It is such a waste of time. I have and love the 10.5. I feel like trying to find the most perfect hardware is a waste of time as well because there will be always be something!

That is bent, not warped. But for your stated needs, all you need is the iPad. Though if you are sticking with the Pro, I would return like you are and make sure you get one that isn't bent.
i vote for 10.5 as well--form factor is tried and true. Computational gains in 2018

Hah, yeah, I'm pretty sure there are thousands of people (hundreds of thousands?) who have perfect, new, straight 11" cellular iPads. but... there's no way to tell what the probability is of getting a properly manufactured (ie straight) iPad 11". I think your chances are good, unless theres some funny business where Amazon is getting a stock of iPads that are more likely to be bent.
If Amazon is good on returns, just keep a straight edge ruler nearby and keep returning them. It is not unreasonable to expect to get a straight iPad.
Yup. Me. My 11” was straight out of the box, and is still straight now. I think a majority of the cellular ipads are straight. I really do.
