Prediction: Three weeks into "bumper" use the "bumper people" wlll be on here with "WTF & "OMG" I have the bumper and my iPhone is damaged. Part two of this will be they will want an explanation from Apple.

Second Prediction: One week into "life with bumper" people will be saying what a waste of money this investment is.

How soon before someone says: The Ring Of Death

Hmm. I ordered a bumper as a temporary case until a better one comes out. I want powersupport or their airjacket. Ihope it ready soon.

A bumper for now is better than nothing. Just to be safe. :) $30 is a cheap insurance to safe it. :D

protect surface scratches with bumpers

My reason for being in favor of a bumper is that it raises the surface of the iPhone off of the table or whatever the phone is resting on and therefore prevents the surface of the phone facing the table top from coming in contact with the table and help eliminate surface scratches.
I also would like to see a clear version of the bumper so as not to hide the good looks of the stainless steel band.

You would have to have a table full of sand--or diamonds--and then rub the phone over said sand--or diamonds--to scratch the glass on the front or back just with a table.

I've never had a case or a screen protector, and neither my 3G nor 3GS have gotten a single scratch on the screen. In fact, there are only a couple of microscopic scratches on the apple on back, and that's much softer than the glass will be.

Don't worry about scratches. Worry about dropping it at exactly the the wrong angle onto a sharp rock and shattering it.

Just ordered a couple of those cheap black silicone covers. Thanks for the heads up! More than likely I'll go naked, but this is a cheap way to protect the phone until the "newness" wears off.
