I did a clean install of Mountain Lion and now I can't get iLife back, and according to Apple, the only way is to go back to 10.6 and upgrade one step at a time... SERIOUSLY.

Mountain Lion doesn't support the Bundled Applications DVD that came with Early 2011 MacBook Pros... it errors out with "The installer could not install the software because there was no software found to install" - the weirdest error message I have ever seen, LOL. Seriously.

Well, it's a day later and I still am nowhere - except I found it IS possible to install iMovie. Not GarageBand or iPhoto though. Any ideas?

Go to Mac App Store and click "Purchases". See if there is any iLife software waiting for you to accept. Mine had the iLife bundle sitting there waiting for me.

That won't be the case for him.

If you did a clean install, then what harm would it cause to clean install Snow Leopard, update to 10.6.8, install iLife, update iLife, install ML. Might take a little bit of time depending on your internet speed, but it is pretty much guaranteed to work.

Otherwise, you won't have iPhoto, iMovie, or GarageBand.

Except the AppleCare person was wrong. Guess what? I restored back to Snow Leopard, clean Snow Leopard install from the stock DVD, and got nowhere. Same exact error message trying to reinstall iLife. Called AppleCare back, and it was hard for her to find how to get me one and took her awhile to find a part number, but I should have a new bundled applications DVD coming in the mail next week. I do have to say, for all my ranting, Apple has excellent customer service.
