So how can I burn a playable DVD (on a dvd player) from the VIDEO_TS or main folder of my ripped content from MacTheRipper? Does Toast work? Because I have it.

You need an app that will create a DVD-ROM(UDF) DVD. Toast works great. Highly recommended for any burning.

In Toast, select "Data" type, then the DVD-ROM(UDF) format. Drag the VIDEO_TS folder to Toast.

thanks, now all i need are some 8GB DVD's

Toast 7 can also compress a full size 8 gig movie to fit on a standard single side disc. Just click the video tab, choose "DVD-video from VIDEO_TS", click on "Fit-to-DVD video compression" and chose the VIDEO_TS folder with the video you've just ripped. And you're set to go.
