Olive oil my spread of choice but use margarine more commonly. Used to be into butter but then I lived next to some dairy farms for a few years. Enough said.

I'm a little uninformed when it comes to veganism, but how does one have a vegan butter? I thought vegan meant free of animal products?

Ahh. In which case, I wholeheartedly agree.

its not actually butter, but it has the taste and consistency of butter. I guess its like margarine, but it contains no whey like most margarines do. Plus, its cholesterol free!

Does it have transfats?

I suppose it must in order to have that semi-solid feel right?

I actually don't think it does..because along with being vegan, I think its also trying to appeal to a "healthier diet". But I could be wrong. maybe tomorrow when its not two in the morning I double check and let you know for sure.

Why, aren't you usually fully focused and alert at two in the morning? :p

Interesting to note that the vast majority of MRers prefer butter. It isn't too surprisingly really; this crowd usually has good taste.

I prefer butter.. when I was growing up, my french grandma would only have butter around, while at my parents place there was only margarine, everything tasted so much better with butter.

Mmm delicious crepes with thick maple syrup and butter. I did make homemade butter once, that was really amazing, very creamy, soft, smooth and tasty on bread

Real Butter! (but I am guilty of using the more spreadable versions out of laziness and preservation of super soft untoasted breads)
Margarine is icky and only used with certain cooking stuffs.

I live where the butter can still easily be bought from a small village producer - even though we live in the big city. You can taste the cow juice in butter here.

Add to that that the diet here is very balanced - then you can enjoy butter.

Sod synthetic crap.

Butter if available though olive based spreads are tolerable.

Ideally jersey gold top butter *drool*

I eat very healthily and find it difficult to gain weight so I don't see any reason why I shouldn't use butter over anything else.
