I've only been using my new Macbook 12 2016 for a few hours as I've been setting things up, and I was pleasantly surprised that the keyboard was not a problem for me at all, even though I'm used to the rMBP keyboard and also the Apple BT keyboard........ Don't hate this keyboard, don't love it -- finding that it works just fine and as expected. Overall, so far I am very pleased with this lightweight, slim little computer!
I currently have a 2012 macbook pro and I'm in desperate need of an upgrade. I'm interested in the new macbook. I'm a writer so I don't need a lot of power but I'm worried about the new keyboard with the butterfly keys. I've 'tested' the keyboard at the store, but I'm interested to hear what you think of it after extended use. Do you hate it? Did you get used to it? Is it a good overall experience once you get past the strangeness of it all?
May I ask why you desperately need an upgrade from a 2012 mbp? They are not that far off in terms of performance to the new ones. FWIW, my 2012 mbp is my main machine along with my 2008 mbp and writing is something they both do with great ease...
it was the best keyboard on a laptop, period.
at first i was skeptical, but after using it for a day or two, i fell in love, and when i typed on my old macbook pro, it becomes clear that i preffer the "butterfly" on the new rMB
I've got used to keyboard in a day or two. And love it.
But what I hate about it that it ruins rather easily. I have stuck keys, and falling out keys for 3rd time now. And I type 'light', I don't bang the keys or anything like that.
*the butterfly keyboard does not make me any less efficient in speed
*i prefer the old chiclets for its longer travel, but its really not a big deal; i dont think about it
*however i HATE that the keys randomly stick (feels dead), and will stick for a random duration of time
*doesnt seem to be self-serviceable like 99% of other keyboards. hard to pry out a key to clean underneath. did this once and really killed a key.
summary, i hate it for its durability, not for its typing mechanics
