Buy 3GS now or hold off until issues are fixed?

I've been itching for an iphone but held off getting one at launch to see what sort of news surfaced regarding people who purhcased it. Things that I've observed so far:
  • Overheating/white iphone browning
  • Overly yellow screen tints
  • Autofocus mechanism of the iphone rattles.

Are these issues even widespread are are they pretty rare? (I know the internet can skew things). Do you think that Apple will silently resolve these problems with new iphone stocks in the future or will they just ignore the problems as one-off manufacturing defects?

I was going to wait until August but I'm going on some business trips during July and the usefulness of the iphone and its applications would aid me well.

Any thoughts? Any reports from people in Portland, OR having bad phones?

It seems to be a small % of users having these problems, The software issues are always going to be around.

Remember that people are less likely to post when everything is fine than they are when there's a problem.

There are millions more people using their phones without complaint than there are people complaining on message boards.

I have heard none of these issues and I know almost thirty people with
3g's and 3gs's. This is the second thread where someone seems to have
an agenda. Or they sell pre's lol.

-Mine rattles when I shake it. (Does it affect anything or is it just annoying?)

-My screen color is good

-Chrom bezzle is slightly lifted on the right side of the screen

-Got the high pitched sound issue (doesnt bother me)

If I get the phone replaced for any of the issues, who's to say that the new one won't have any issues as well. All in all I'm very happy with this phone.

You're right and just to set the record straight...mine's perfect!

Keep in mind again that a lot of people are too stupid to realize they have an issue at all. I know plenty of people who have iPhones. One of them dials every number he ever calls (even tho they're in his contacts) just because it's "easier"... Not to mention he doesn't use it for anything besides calls. Period.

This is not to say that these problems are wide spread, but the % of people with problems who end up on mac rumors is a lot lower than the total.

I still ordered mine, knowing about all the issues. I'm confident that if I'm not happy Apple will fix the problem.

Apple sold 1 million iphones the first weekend. Probably to at least 1.25M by now. 1% of 1.25M = 1250. I don't think we've come anywhere near that number in terms of complaints of bad units. Don't worry about it.

If you are hearing a "rattle" take your sim card/tray out and see if you still hear it. That's more than likely the issue. The auto focus on the camera is so small I don't think it's even possible for it move, let alone rattle.

The yellow screen - BIG problem.

Just buy it. I love my 3GS. It is so much better then my 1st gen and 3G I-phone. Apple will replace you phone if actually have a problem with it.

Issues????

I am amazed how trouble free 3.0 and the GS have been. I am glad they left a lot of the phone unchanged, as it has made fir a very smooth launch.

Hold Off!

Absolutely. I would hold off until well... I would hold off from buying a 2G.
Phone definitely had some issues and phone quality was one.

Oh you mean the 3GS? Sorry. That's just daff. If it's available get it. :)

They don't sell Pre's - it's alot worse over there!

If you can afford it - buy it! If you can't - Don't!

It's a fact that in this life there are always going to be a minority (thank goodness!) of folks who have to complain, whinge, and generally moan about pretty well everything. :) Unfortunately, we seem to be plagued with quite a few on this forum :)

The secret is - ignore them! Don't forget, the iPhone is nothing less than a mini computer which you can hold in your hand. All computers can crash or behave strangely, but we still use 'em!

1% of 1.25M is 12,500.

None of the 6 people I know are having any issues with theirs.

Thanks to everyone who responded! I purchased my iphone a week ago and couldn't be happier with it! :)
