Thanks a lot for good advise!

you can minimize the ribbon (right click on the ribbon for this option). You can also double click in page margin area (i.e. the footer of pg 1 and the header of pg 2) to hide that margin if you're working with a multi-page document; this will hide all the dead space.

I didn't know - so thanks a lot for very good advise - advise that is so important for me!:)

What is your reason for sticking with Word? I understand if you are a power user or need it for compatibility, however for pure writing there are plenty of "focused writing" apps, such as IA Writer ( http://ia.net/blog/ia-writer-for-mac ) that leave you with a white screen and your thoughts, no distractions. There are plenty of similar apps available for the mac (and the iPad if you fancied something even smaller and quieter!)

Thanks for these suggestions. I have tried IA Writer for some months ago, but (as I now vaguely remember) this - and the other writing apps - stills leave some dead space on the left and right side of the screen, two vertical columns. This I dislike much.

As far as I know, Word 2003 was the last edition of Word that offers REAL FULL SCREEN VIEW, where you can write literally from the left bezel to the right bezel edge, thus utilizing the whole width of the screen! And I don't know of any other word processor that offers this option anymore. (Later versions of Word don't offer this particular option either.)

Anyone who knows about a word processor today that offers this particular screen view option, where you can write and edit in real full screen mode in the way I have described above? I would surely be interested in it!:)

I think you're pretty safe to buy one after the new Retinas come out. The Airs were just refreshed in June, so they likely won't be updated for several months to come.
