Have you ever been into an Apple Store to purchase something small, like a new iPhone case or Apple Watch band, but passed by that colorful iMac or pixel-perfect Studio Display along the way and just couldn't resist buying one?

For those spur-of-the-moment purchases, Apple today announced a new solution called Easy Pay Online Ordering that gives customers the option to have the products they purchase in store delivered to their home. Apple said its retail stores are also now able to sell out-of-stock items to customers that are delivered to their home at a later date.

This new option means that customers will no longer have to drag heavy, large-boxed products to their vehicle in the parking lot or on public transportation. Alternatively, ordering via Apple's online store remains an option to avoid this dilemma as well.

Apple's plans to offer Easy Pay Online Ordering were reported by Bloomberg's Mark Gurman in July, and the company officially announced the feature today.

I assume they are using the same courier service as they do if you choose same day delivery when ordering online. That is DoorDash or UberEats in the USA depending on the market. I had a really bad experience with the Apple courier one time on a high priced item and won't use it again.

Its one thing to get a phone case or cable delivered by DD/UE, but Apple using them to transport $2k machines is just risky.

This is a great idea in theory, but Apple needs to just have their own employed delivery drivers instead of a random person grabbing your MacBook while they also grab someone's Big Mac.

So innovative, no other stores have done this before. Like last month, we got a new fridge and had to take that to a compact car and drag it home like Mr. Bean.
Yes every single thing Apple does, must be innovative. They aren't allowed to do anything another company has done before without it being brought up as "inNoVaTIoN"

obviously you don't own one. i do and it's a game changer.
The studio display is a classic example of things not mattering until Apple does them. Every monitor has drawbacks and the SD has the least of any monitor I’ve used. Like honestly, monitors suck so bad these days. But because it isn’t perfect and it’s Apple… time for that to be the entire tech news cycle for a week.

The studio display is my favorite Apple product of all time. It’s a dream to use.

Why do Apple dissenters/haters assume that everything Apple does must be “innovative” or never done before? It’s an option added to their offerings that wasn’t available before. Should they not announce it?

I don’t see anything here or in Apple’s announcement saying this is an innovative new delivery method for Apple customers. It’s simply detailing the option is now available for shoppers.

I deleted my reddit and twitter accounts but I’m absolutely positive that “innovate” and “x already had it in 2015” feature heavily on those networks in regards to this story and the recent product launch, when no one implied or said otherwise. /mild rant

The fact that the Studio Display doesn’t wobble when you type, unlike the LG UltraFine, was enough to justify the price. HDR rendering with EDR and the other bells and whistles were just icing on the cake.

“Apple said its retail stores are also now able to sell out-of-stock items to customers that are delivered to their home at a later date”

So basically an Apple employee can help you order from an Apple Store like you would normally online. Wow it’s impressive that after all these years that’s finally an option!

I went to an Apple Store to purchase an Apple Watch and wanted to use the veteran discount. I was told it’s only available online, not at the physical store for reasons unknown 🤷‍♂️ So I ordered it online for pick up at the same exact store. I had to wait an extra 15 mins, neither myself nor the employees could believe Apple for such malarkey and inconsistencies.

This makes me wonder if the discounts offered for education/government would be available for purchase at an Apple Store, through this new easy pay online option. Knowing Apple I doubt it.

On that note regarding military and veterans from Apple:
Apple Card Monthly Installments (ACMI) are not available as a payment type in this special storefront. Please visit an Apple Store location or the Apple Online Store if you wish to use ACMI at checkout. Please note that purchases made at an Apple Store location or through the Apple Online Store are not eligible for the discounted pricing available at this special storefront.

Only way to use ACMI is to pay full MSRP. Pretty whack that you can’t stack it with a discount

I can't say that I've ever had a problem with monitors wobbling when I type, even large 27" panels. I can only assume that either:

a) The LG UltraFine is unusually poorly made, or
b) You are an insanely aggressive typer :D

...but if you need AppleCare service, you still need to lug that entire bulky machine back into the store.
Is that true? I don't think so. There's the option of mailing your item into an AppleCare service center for AppleCare warranty fix/repair, isn't there? In some places, you can even have a technician come to where your machine is.

I do like the idea to have an out of stock item ordered, but to be honest I try and avoid Apple stores like the plague. They are not fun places to be. Always a mad house and chaotic and even a minor purchase is annoying. I stick to online.
I'm the opposite. I like to visit Apple stores to try out items and if they have the product I intend to purchase, I purchase it there rather than online. There are several reasons for that including it's uncertain when mail delivery would occur and sometimes mail couriers can just chuck an expensive item on the door step or not deliver it properly. If there are issues with delivery (e.g., a dinged product due to poor handling) I much rather discover that right at the Apple Store and say, "Sorry I don't want to take this version. The box is dinged. Please get me another one."

Of course, I haven't experienced Apple Stores all over, but I have experienced them in two different states and been to three different Apple Stores and they all seem to operate similarly.

Isn't half the point of buying something in-store the instant gratification of taking it home and using it right then and there?
Perhaps that's half the point for you, but it may not be a point at all for others.

I can imagine some people wanting to get the advice of store employees and go through various options. Then, they purchase the item in the store but they are not able to carry the item with them right away for whatever reason: inconvenient, they are still shopping, they're visitors from out-of-town, etc.
