Buy iPad 2 in USA

Dear all,

I live in Indonesia and have my brother in USA bought me an iPad2 3G 64GB AT&T.
The question is, if I want to use it in Indonesia, should I firstly activate it in USA (AT&T) ?
I heard if I am not activate the iPad2 in USA, I can not use the 3G in Indonesia.

Please kindly advice ...

you can activate in us and roam at home. get intl data plan from att. you can use wifi anywhere
