Do you usually buy/pre-order an iphone on launch?

Or do you wait a few months for Apple to tweak minor hardware revisions in the supply chain, and then buy?

Honestly depends on what’s being offered. Cameras don’t interest me so unless Apple brings either a weight reduction or new display tech which are both doubtful then this might need the first year I doing buy anything. Supposedly a price increase as well which will definitely make me laugh.

I meant to ask do you wait for minor internal tweaks to the existing iphone models in the supply chain?

I assume the iphones at the Sept launch ever year are revision_0 or something.

And the iphones later might either be an internal revision_0.2 or something, or have a much better yield which reduces the chances of getting a lemon due to tweaks in supply chain.

My iphone 13 pro from At&t has an unresolved facetime bug where it constantly switches between LTE and WiFi during a facetime call, always freezing no matter the physical location. The genius bar is unable to resolve the issue despite being within warranty.

I'd say depends from which device you are coming from.
This. Still using a 7 Plus which won't be supported by iOS16, so will be ordering a 14 on first day. Yeah I know I could get a 13 discounted now, but I tend to buy the latest and fastest and hold on to it as long as it will go

On the contrary, the units made in late July or August usually fare better in terms of quality because there is more scrutiny during the MP ramp process. Look at the dates of the affected models. They are all well past the ramp stage.

I upgraded every year since 2007! I keep telling myself I will not continue doing this but then I always find myself online preordering 🤔…..

If I'm buying a particular new model, I want it as close to release date as possible, so usually preorder.

If I were to wait for a few months, I'd only end up with the predicament of thinking "Maybe I should just wait for the next one....."

:)

I usually wait but I waited in line for the 13 PM at launch… That was my absolute worst experience ever with an iPhone. This time I’m waiting for the .1 release before I upgrade. If the new iPhone has an android Swiss cheese selfie camera as rumored I’ll pass on this iPhone

Whenever I buy a new device, I preorder. I haven’t had any issues with my devices in the last few years. I’m currently still using my launch day 12 Pro Max and will be preordering through 14 Pro Max.

This was the answer I was looking for! Thank you!

I’ve always gotten mine on launch day most times. Some might say the launch day batch might be “rushed” thus with some issues shipped with the iPhones. Last couple of years were bumpy mainly because of the screen tinting issues.

I tried buying the 13 PM at launch and it had orange and red tints. I bought another recently and the screen is immaculate. Not sure if it will change how I buy future Apple products. It depends which school of thought you subscribe to.
