2. If I buy one now, should I buy an 8 gig or 16 gig model? I already have an iPod Classic 80 gig which I'm gonna keep using.

I'm not you, but I'm also planning buying an iPhone and I also have an iPod - but I figured out, if I buy the 8GB model I'll probably gonna regret it later. I mean, it's not just music, who knows what the future holds for space-demanding software. Better to be on the safe side, if you ask me. It's always nice to know you have extra space if needed. And the price difference isn't THAT big...

EDIT: Also, why not just use that extra 8GB for music and then sell your iPod, and then you wouldn't have paid any extra after all? :D Better to have it all on on device!

Okay, so you wouldn't recommend using ZiPhone at all? I thought that was so far the most advanced unlocking/jailbraking method.
My plan was to get the iPhone, unlock with ZiPhone and then get some sort of prepaid with dataplan or (if this exists) a 6 months contract to use here in the US.
Pan B would be to not unlock the phone for the first 6 months, get GoPhone and unlock it when I'm in Europe (cause that I have to do anyway when I move back).

BTW: I will get a refurbished one I'm just confused if I should unlock right away, and which carrier would be a good choice... Sometimes there is a carrier lot of people can recommend using with the iPhone (apart from AT&T)

Actually you should look into iPlus instead of ZiPhone as apparently you can revert back to the 4.6 bootloader. They do both do the same things, but iPlus downgrades to a different 3.9 BL.

In answer to the original question, it depends whether or not the iPhone does what you want.

For me, it doesn't because it is currently lacking MMS, video recording, 3G and To-Do list syncing. So I'm waiting for a Mk2 iPhone.

So I guess iPlus then is the best method to unlock? (just wondering because everybody is talking about ZiPhone)

Any suggestions for a good prepaid plan for me for the next 6 months?

Hello. I am interested in this topic as well. Rather than create a new topic, I thought I could get any feedback from those of you that are on AT&T GoPhone plan.

My story:
Without any plan, I bought an iPhone this week. I currently have a plan with VZ but that will expire in less than 6 months. However, I may renew my contract with VZ. This will be a second phone.

My plan:
Ideally I would like to go with AT&T prepay plan but I've read few horror stories about edge connection outages to GoPhone customers. However, that thread hasn't been updated since early Feb, 2008.

Is that still the case? If not, I've also read that inserting all 9s into SS#no longer works to fail a credit check. Can I use my own SS# and will it offer me the $29.99 + $19.99 per month plan?

Solution:
I would really appreciate any feedback, as I am anxious to activate my new iPhone.

Thanks in advance!
