I just got my macbook from Amazon, could be happier. I saved hundreds by saving on the tax and now there is a 75.00 rebate.....awesome.

I dont know why people would buy one from Apple.com. I understand buying one in the physical store, but if you are online savvy, then buy one from Amazon.com

Is This Loophole Feasible?

Now, this is all just hypothetical:

Say I buy an older version of the MacBook Pro on Amazon for less than the retail price... right now there is one going for $1699 and with the rebate, it's $1549.

Upon receiving it, I get a "defect" and take it to my local Apple Store. They'll say sorry and replace it with the newest MacBook Pro.

I just got the latest and greatest MacBook Pro for about $600 less than what it would've originally cost if buying from the Apple Store and including sales tax.

You can also try http://www.shopyourworld.com . The site has a merchant association with Amazon that enables you to shop on Amazon and get it shipped right to your doorstep. The pricing provided on the site is in INR and includes shipping charges as well.

Always bought my Mac's through Amazon. You can still use the Apple store
and the geniuses whenever you want to make an appointment.

Saving that sales tax and often a rebate too at Amazon. Though I will say
the Apple refurb's online are often good deals too, even with the sales tax.

Also, buying from the Apple store gives you the whole Apple experience IMHO.

LOL ... depending on the store, that could be a bad thing. My Apple Store was so crowded, there was a waiting list to speak with someone (even though I went in knowing exactly what I wanted), and I had to wait for almost an hour before someone could get to me (I was the 3rd person on the list). Fortunately, 1: there were iPod Touches around, with games on them, so my 13-year-old was entertained while we were waiting, 2: one of the Apple Care Specialists snuck me in while he was working with other people, since I knew what I wanted, and 3) I discovered that my employee discount worked in-store (subsequently saving me about $100 off the base price).

The near-hour-wait-for-a-10-minute-tops-transaction was what really got me :(
