I can't decide whether or not I should buy a new iPhone 14 Pro Max 256GB for $750 (Special Discount Going on currently). Or wait for the new iPhone 15 Pro Max? But with the latter I'll most likely will have to pay full price which is about $1300. I currently own an iPhone Xs Max that's going on 5 years now. What do you guys think?

What will the iPhone 15 provide that the 14 will not provide?

Personally, I would go with the 14 Pro Max now as a savings of $550 is significant. I doubt the 15 Pro Max would provide $550 more in value.

With that being said, it is your money to spend how you see fit. My opinion is worth exactly $0.00. Do what make you happy, not me.

Thanks for the advice, but yes I was thinking that $550 is a huge discount and I don't think the iPhone 15 Pro Max will offer that much anyways. I'm leaning towards getting the IP14PM. But just curious and wanted to hear from others as well. Appreciate the feedback.

That discount is pretty massive, and I'd get it for that reason alone.

Combined with your current phone being an iPhone XS Max... well, either phone will feel like a big upgrade. Might as well go for the one with a really nice discount, I'd say.

Since all iPhone 15 features are only rumors at the present (and somewhat subject to change it appears) and the only one that appears to have any merit (to me, at least) is the USB C charging port (albeit probably with performance limitations imposed by Apple so that they can get revenue from MiFi connection certification: again this is all conjecture at this point) I would go with the 14 Pro Max. Most iPhone changes these days are iterative year on year and, usually not ground breaking, saving $550 is a significant amount of money. However if you like to have the latest, this may not work for you. It really is a head over heart issue. My head would say get the iPhone 14 Pro Max and my heart might say go for the latest and greatest. I am guessing that since you waited this long to upgrade that you are 'head' rather than 'heart' orientated person and should go for the iPhone 14 Pro Max. Your money your choice.

Like the others said, the 14 Pro Max will probably be the best option since there is a $550 massive discount. You have an XS Max, so either one will be a big upgrade over what you have now.

Get the very last iPhone model Apple ever makes before they switch to something else!

You may have to wait a few decades for it, but guaranteed it will be way better than the 14 Pro Max or the 15 Pro Max.

Honestly, this game is played every year. If people would just wait for the last model of iPhone ever made, then they'd have the best ever and not have to make this decision!

Or you could just buy what you want - when you want it. That works too!

Wait for the 15 pro max . Better 5G modem USB-C and better cameras along with possible improvements to battery life .

Great price on a very good phone - I'm real happy with mine and I haven't seen anything in the rumors on the 15 that would make me want to pass up such a deal.

from an authorized dealer?

the only one that appears to have any merit (to me, at least) is the USB C charging port

USB-C and Wifi 6E are both likely improvements. If you save this much money on a 14 purchase you could sell it and get a 15 if it has something you want with a reduced loss.

Unpopular opinion but, if you use your phone intensively, and will profit from the improvements in CPU, GPU and Neural Engines that are coming with the A17, then I would wait.

This year’s Pro lineup will debut the A17 and that SoC is expected to be a big jump in performance and efficiency, like it was the A14, the A11 and the A9 back in the day.

However, if your use isn’t going to be intensive in that regard, or just use the camera occasionally, then I would go for the discounted 14 Pro Max.

The USB-C connector change is not important for me, to be honest, and I’m happy with the reliable lighting port. However, the big increase in CPU/GPU power, the better efficiency and the bigger RAM from the A17 (it’s rumored to increase from 6GB to 8GB), may be of use to some people, and will undoubtedly grant a longer lifespan with such increase in specs. It’s the expected jump to the 3nm process, after all.

Mind you, it will probably come with a price increase as well, so it’s up to you if it’s worth the extra money.

I bought an iPhone 7 Plus brand new in November 2020 and more than 2 years later, even though I really wanted to buy a brand new iPhone 13 Pro Max [which is no longer sold by Apple] due to issues on the latest model, I decided to go with a brand new iPhone 14 Pro Max...

2020 - iPhone 7 Plus 128GB [iOS 13.4.1]
2023 - iPhone 14 Pro Max 256GB [iOS 16.2]

My iPhone 7 Plus is currently on iOS 15.6 RC and I have not updated the iPhone 14 Pro Max yet even though iOS 16.4.1 is already available... I'll see what iOS 17 offers for the hardware features of my new iPhone and I'll decide what to do by then...

It would still depend on your purchasing power and the features you are after on whether to go with iPhone 14 Pro Max or go with iPhone 15 Pro Max [assuming that will still be the name by then and not Ultra or something else]

If you will need to export massive photo and video files off your iPhone then you'll most certainly want to wait for the 15 Pro Max. The pro versions are rumored to have the full speed USB C speeds.

If that isn't important to you then there is no reason to wait as the additional changes will be minor performance wise.

How much photography do you do? Shoot a lot of video? If not, then you probably won’t need the 15. After all, the newer iPhones coming out are mostly focused on video and high resolution photography. The apps still all work the same, the screens are similar, the main improvements are the cameras and processor. So, if photography isn’t your thing, then get the 14 plus or pro max. I’m pretty sure the 15 will be heavily focused on a new camera and larger sensors. The rumor is that Sony is making the sensor for the 15 pro & pro max main camera and is supposedly going to be fantastic in low light.

Who is offering that discount? There almost certainly will be promotions and incentives (not from Apple) when the iPhone 15 is released.

If you can get the discount up front and not over time that is a no brainer of a deal. When the 15 comes out you could sell it for that maybe more and get the 15. Now if that discount is done over time with a payment plan you will be stuck with the 14 for a while to get the full amount. My 14 PM is a solid phone. I am happy with mine. I cannot say I plan upgrade to the 15, but I am eyeing the camera if they do an optical zoom like the Ultra I will likely upgrade because that is the one thing I miss from my S22

$750 for 14 PM is a great value. I’d go for it and not look back. I think you could then sell the PM in 2-3 years for only $250 less.
