If you ask me, I think apple takes far to long to upgrade or refresh. It would be nice if every once in awhile you go to apple on line and see a not expected refresh. I know how excited I got when I seen that happen.

I recently got a new white Mac book, went in expecting a 2.0 with a 120gb Hdd only later to find out it was a 2.13 with a 160 gb hdd. If you could have seen the look on my face.

To answer your question, by waiting you never know what your going to get, could be a bigger hard drive with no fire wire or a better processor lacking the Nvidia card. What you do know, is by buying now you see what your getting.

I'll finish up by saying, don't let apple drive you crazy, I've seen a lot of guys lose sleep over this. You can always upgrade the memory & the new SSD is awesome, if you can afford it.

Complain to Intel, not Apple. I, for one, like that my purchases actually retain some of their value as opposed to a PC.

It should have been apathy. Tech changes; get over it.

So just don't buy it from Apple. Problem solved! :D

Why? New hardware don't exist so why to update? It's PC manufacturers thing to push 20 new models on market every week, but there's nothing new really. Only new name (something like 8730DWUED) and maybe 2$ lower price, that's everything, but they can market it as a new model. Apple updates when new and better hardware exists

I've been hearing the aluminums dent really really easily and I'm getting paranoid/worried.

I've used the original aluminum from its launch week to the end of May when I sold it and no dents. This is the first I hear of such things so do not worry. Obviously, just don't bang it up, use a sleeve, etc. and you should be fine.

If you are so rough with it that you'd get dents, then chances are if you go for the white one you will probably get cracks instead.

The aluminum is a better, more durable purchase for a wide number of reasons (easier to clean, won't stain, touchpad won't crack, has a better screen, etc.) so I would definitely go for that.

I have to add my two cents. I agree with everyone that says buy it if you need it. But.... It will be about a year before apple updates the processors and video cards in all of their computers. The current laptop lineup is already using some pretty dated parts (typical for apple). I rushed out and bought the new 13" mbp for a travel companion. It was actually a little larger than I thought and was a nightmare with all the repairs. I returned it and stuck with my 15"mbp from 2 years ago that has a very similar processor and obviously a better video card. I am going to wait a year and hope that apple finally puts some new hardware into their laptops. Really try to wait if you have any type of computer that will bridge the gap. Apple's current lineup is pretty old hardware with a fancy case.

I dont understand why would someone wait for a year to buy a computer? ( except the financial reasons ) Especially if that person is very upset with its current system .

If i were you I would try to find a college student , buy the computer with his help and get an applecare for a cheap price, get the ipod touch for free. Then sell the ipod to reduce the cost of the computer.

Then next year if I want to have USB 3 and latest chips I would sell my laptop with a minimum lost. ( since I bought it very cheap and has applecare on it )

This is another way to do it. Whatever you decide next year will hopefully be a big year for apple laptops. These last two years have only seen cosmetic upgrades.

Thanks, that does help to set my mind at ease. But the million-dollar question is this ... and this is something ive asked in a ton of other threads and never gotten a clear answer ... I might just make a new thread if I don't get any luck this time around ... but will the sleeve be enough? I have a book bag (messenger style) that I will be using for law school this fall. I suspect I will be carrying a lot of big, heavy books in that bag along with my mbp. Will an incase neoprene be enough to protect it from all the other items in my bag? (or booq taipan, or applesac, etc., etc. ... all basically the same thing it seems) I'm unclear on which sleeve I will need to sufficiently protect my mbp while in my bag with all my books, etc. Any answer on this would be great, as I'm sure lots of other college-bound kids/first-time buyers will want to know. If nada then I'll just create a thread to get more answers. Thanks.

I agree with you, those code names sucks. I think even Intel does not know what are their products code names. Here is an article from Wikipedia, quite a mess, thought. It says Clarksfield and Lynnfield are both Core i7 but Q3 '09 Lynnfield is Core i5  What a mess...

Clarksfield is essentially the mobile i7.

Arrandale is actually i3.

Everything else is a mystery to me.
