I've been waiting for a new iMac 27 to upgrade mine, but looks like that may never come, so I would be fine with a Mini since the Studio is really overkill. Was hoping we'd see a new Mini by now, but who knows these days with Apple. The M1 Mini 16/512 is selling now for $999. I'm not desperate for a new computer, but don't want to wait for a new Mini if it's going to be 6+ months away or an iMac that may not exist.

M1 Mini 16/512 is fine for 999 USD. Anyway Silicon and OS Monterey have some issues with apps compatibility and peripheral third party devices. New architecture and OS need some time (more developers, updates) to be fully integrated. Check your apps and your devices before switch to them.

I have a M1 MacBook Air, haven't had any compatibility issues yet and even the base model with 8GB smokes my iMac.

I'm kinda in the same boat. Have an old 2012 27" iMac that I'm looking to upgrade. I don't need the studio, but I do need three screens. I know there's ways to get an M1 Mini to drive three displays. Anyone doing this, and does it pose any issues? I'm hopeful that a Mini refresh might provide support for a larger number of displays without work-arounds.

I have been hoping for a M1 Max-powered Mac mini, but then Apple put the M1 Max in the all-new Mac Studio...

Now I am thinking that a M2 Pro-powered Mac mini may be the way to go...

Better single-core performance & better GPU performance, so a 16-core M2 Pro GPU may be equal to a 24-core M1 Max GPU...?

Late 2015
I'm running a 2014 Mac mini (although I do also have a 2017 iMac). I am going to wait. I don't know if it's for an M1 Pro, M2, or M2 Pro, but regardless, I will wait. There is no way I'm going to get a chunky and comparatively expensive Mac Studio.

Yes, an M1 Mac mini will smoke your 2015 iMac, but do you actually need that speed? Even if you do, you already have an M1 MacBook Air anyway you can use when needed, to supplement the iMac.

From this page:

"Apple is expected to release the updated Mac mini sometime in 2022, and the update could see Apple introduce M2 and M2 Pro chips. Most rumors have pointed to the 2022 release date, but Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo believes Apple will wait until 2023 to debut a refreshed Mac mini."

I'm going to wait for this. It's exactly what I need. In the meantime, my iMac Pro is no slouch, and I have the 14" M1 Pro MBP, which is even faster. An M2 Pro in a Mini would be so good.

I have an older iMac 27" Intel 4-Core i7 in my office, 2018 6-Core i7 MacBook Pro and a 2018 6-Core i7 Mac mini in my home office. Looking to retire the older iMac with a M1 or M2 Mini either later this year or early next. For me I only need 2 screens and I have 28" 4K screens available but would prefer 4 thunderbolt ports as I have quite a bit of storage attached. An upgraded mini with 4 ports would be my ideal if it is ever released.

I would wait if you already have a M1 MacBook Air. I don’t see much point in getting another M1.

Are you planning to get the Studio Display with the Mac mini?

For quite some time, Apple tended to refresh the Mini around October.
Perhaps we'll see either an "m1pro" or "m2" Mini around Sep/Oct/Nov this year...

That's what I'm hoping and what most of the rumors suggest. The one dissenting voice is Ming-Chi Kuo, who said no new Mini until next year. I hope he's wrong!

I wonder if it might not be partially dependent upon the Mac Pro. I would expect the Mac Pro to be released before any M2 Mac mini or M2 MacBook Air. If the Mac mini were to be released with M1 Pro though, then it could be at any time.

I am going to get an 11" iPad Pro (WiFi/128GB/Space Gray) to "hold me over" until we get a M2 Pro-powered Mac mini, so I can wait a bit longer for the mini; a M2 Pro-powered Mac mini this year would be nice, the sooner the better...! ;^p

Maybe because by the time they are ready to release a pro version of the Mac mini, the M2 chip will be coming out?
