I did a search for this topic and one of the posters who claimed that the case was responsible for scratches on his phone stated that he had modded his case. What likely happened is that the sharp edges of the plastic from his mod is what scratched his phone, not the original design of the case itself.

As I've already stated, this thread is inherently stupid and biased since the posters are completely ignoring the testimonials which report zero damage and perfect protection over months and years of use. And these testimonials are far easier to find than the reports of damage, which seem to be concentrated in OCD fan sites such as this forum.

I guess I shouldn't have used the word common in my first post in this thread (post #5). I completely agree with you, and I was just throwing that one anecdote out there. I will never personally use a Defender on my phone because all the compromises one has to make for that amount of protection.

I'm going to have to backpedal a little bit and tone down some of my rather harsh criticisms of the defender case. I've used the case for a few days now, and as someone suggested, I am getting used to the size and weight of the case.

It no longer seems like such an enormous brick. I am using the touch screen with the built in protector without any difficulty. I am no longer finding texting to be such a daunting task, either. In other words, the case doesn't really get in the way much, if at all.

The defender certainly does not fit easily into a pants pocket, but I can certainly use it without the very serious reservations I noted earlier. To my pleasant surprise, I've simply gotten used to it. I've....adapted.

IP5 newbie here. I installed the otterbox defender case, and without being as attentive as I should, I did not clean the side of the screen protector touching the phone screen.

I examined the phone screen very carefully after cleaning, and noticed some bright spots, which almost look like little flares of light. Are these pits or scratches caused by the case? Or, is this normal variation in the grain structure of the glass? Or, could those pits have been in place prior to my even installing the otterbox screen protector and case?
