When a 13 quad core will land thats my baby, just like the ipad pro, wanna see if force touch comes, till that day i'm on the my ipad 2017 and saving bucks for 2018

Pro tip: Wait for the 2024 release with liquid hydrogen and 1pb NVMe++. Til then, pad and paper.
You can joke, but this was a serious question since next years MacBook Pros will have 6-core CPUs, the first core increase in a long time. Even ignoring all the other rumored upgrades with the Coffee Lake models, there is genuinely a reason to wait, it's not something you get every year.

Uh, I wasn't joking.

Money doesn't grow on trees, my Early 2015 MBP 13 is meeting my needs. I have an HP Elitebook from 2011 and its working well too. I don't just upgrade for upgrade sake. The money I would unnecessarily spend just because next years model includes a 6 core CPU doesn't warrant upgrading. Word is not gonna launch any faster, healing brush is not gonna work any better, iTunes is not gonna play music any better.

Okay, yours did seem like you could have been serious but I wasn’t sure. Than I agree, 2021s MacBook Pro would be enough to justify upgrading. Although whether we’d even get DDR5 at that point is another question.

you're probably be waiting until 2030 to get DDR5 on an Apple computer
I probably should be realistic about DDR5 considering Apple's adoption of new RAM technologies over the years. We probably might see Apple computers with DDR5 at the earliest 2026.

More like 2124

As to the OP: I think it's absolutely silly to spend nearly a grand for a "stop gap" device, unless you're going to find good use for the iPad even after buying the MBP.

Another option is to buy a current model MBP and if the new one is a significant enough improvement that you have to have it, sell the current model and order the new one. It'll probably lose less value than the cost of the iPad.

The amount of waiting people are doing on this forum is simply disturbing. Buy now or do something else. More power won’t make the computer any better, it will only make you a worse operator of the computer, since you don’t have a computer now, yes, this second. If you already own sufficient hardware, then produce and stop waiting!

An iPad is at the moment nothing but a device for consuming. There is a small core of hackers who may have made the shift, but for 99% macOS is the way to go.

If you are concerned about resale value, don’t buy a computer, get a second job, much more profit!

If they can wait it out, let them wait it out. There are users who kept using their 2008 MacBook Pro's up to now, I don't see why a 2012, 2013, 2014 MBP Retina owner couldn't keep using theirs until 2022, 2023, 2024 respectively. Yes, its nice to have the latest, but if what you have is meeting your needs, Apple still supports it with new versions of macOS and security updates, there isn't necessarily a reason to upgrade.

If you use your MacBook in some technical areas like post production, scientific and engineering, I can understand the necessity to upgrade every year. The reality is, those are niche users. I certainly have the money right now to splurge on a 2017 since I made the money back from my Early 2015. But its still doing what I need. Users need to look at their use case deeply and stop mindlessly spending money just because. I wouldn't be shocked if Jony, Phil and Tim Cook don't upgrade to every new revision. In fact, I saw footage in the design studio and they were using previous generation iMacs with optical drive bays. The call centers in Texas, support agents were using conventional MacBook Pros.

There is also the benefit of getting a new model cheaper through different channels by waiting. For instance, you can get last years 2016 MBPs that were top of the line for around $2000. This is a machine that originally cost $2,700. So, waiting does have its merit.

First off, you have absolutely no idea if a 6 core coffee lake computer is going to be released in 2018. It may be, it may not. Buy a new computer now if you can't get by. If a newer and better computer shows face and you can't live without it, sell your 1-2 year old device and upgrade. Worst case scenario you lose a couple hundred bucks in resale value..... but you were able to use it and enjoy it rather than posting hypotheticals.

This is so simple and everyone goes on and on about future performance upgrades. It's not even an entirely new product. Apple give us some 3 dimensional hyperspace device already!!!
