Tigerlake comes after Icelake, so, I'm looking to get the best bang for my buck. Why not Icelake? Just because you just got the last years and want to keep it for 6 years or because there is something special about Tigerlake?

You can joke, but this was a serious question since next years MacBook Pros will have 6-core CPUs, the first core increase in a long time. Even ignoring all the other rumored upgrades with the Coffee Lake models, there is genuinely a reason to wait, it's not something you get every year.Pro tip: Wait for the 2024 release with liquid hydrogen and 1pb NVMe++. Til then, pad and paper.
Uh, I wasn't joking. You can joke, but this was a serious question since next years MacBook Pros will have 6-core CPUs, the first core increase in a long time. Okay, yours did seem like you could have been serious but I wasn’t sure. Than I agree, 2021s MacBook Pro would be enough to justify upgrading. Although whether we’d even get DDR5 at that point is another question.Uh, I wasn't joking.
Money doesn't grow on trees, my Early 2015 MBP 13 is meeting my needs. I have an HP Elitebook from 2011 and its working well too. I don't just upgrade for upgrade sake. The money I would unnecessarily spend just because next years model includes a 6 core CPU doesn't warrant upgrading. Word is not gonna launch any faster, healing brush is not gonna work any better, iTunes is not gonna play music any better.
I personally am waiting until 2021 when Tigerlake gets released with DDR5.
I probably should be realistic about DDR5 considering Apple's adoption of new RAM technologies over the years. We probably might see Apple computers with DDR5 at the earliest 2026.you're probably be waiting until 2030 to get DDR5 on an Apple computer

If they can wait it out, let them wait it out. There are users who kept using their 2008 MacBook Pro's up to now, I don't see why a 2012, 2013, 2014 MBP Retina owner couldn't keep using theirs until 2022, 2023, 2024 respectively. Yes, its nice to have the latest, but if what you have is meeting your needs, Apple still supports it with new versions of macOS and security updates, there isn't necessarily a reason to upgrade. The amount of waiting people are doing on this forum is simply disturbing. Buy now or do something else. More power won’t make the computer any better, it will only make you a worse operator of the computer, since you don’t have a computer now, yes, this second. If you already own sufficient hardware, then produce and stop waiting!
An iPad is at the moment nothing but a device for consuming. There is a small core of hackers who may have made the shift, but for 99% macOS is the way to go.
If you are concerned about resale value, don’t buy a computer, get a second job, much more profit!
