Hello. I never owned Apple Watch in my life, only for trying on one occasion. I really like the idea of activity companion and gentle vibration of notifications (althought I don’t have many notifications turned on even on my iPhone). Today I saw a very nice deal for an Apple Watch Series 6 and I’mm kinda torn.

1) Should I buy Series 6 with approximately 40% lower price now or should I wait for Series 7 (which is rumored to have new design and even maybe new health features)?
2) Should I worry about battery draining of my iPhone 12 mini?
3) If I’m not a much of a watch person, should I be scared that after a while they will be not much important as my iPhone is? For example if the ‘13 mini’ would be that much better on a battery (for me a very small issue on a mini altogether) wouldn’t be a smarter choice to wait and buy new mini instead of staying with 12 mini and AW (financial-wise)?

What are your opinions? Do I overthink this too much? Thanks everyone here for helping and your opinions.

I love my Apple Watch. It’s a tool. I use it for notifications since I can’t hear or feel my phone in my pocket and for health tracking. If you can get a good deal for a S6 go for it. Noting drastic will be new enough to pay full price for the s7 unless you want the newest one possible for longest

If you are able to find a new piece for a 30% discount then go for it. I wouldn’t pay Apple’s asking price this late in the refresh cycle.

Buy 6 and then Buy 7 too.

I was overthinking just like you. Found a sweet deal on S6 GPS + CELLULAR and ordered it straight away.
We don’t have a cellular versions in our country. But thinking mostly about that sweet price for now.

Me neither. I calculated that it’s 30-40% original price, without that sale I wouldn’t thinking about it right now.

Apple Watch 6 will be relevant for at least 3 more years to come. Since you made the financial point in your post I’d say buy it since you’re getting a deal.

Even with the new redesign at least wait for a couple of years to see if there are any issues and potentially avoid them with a launch device. In the mean time your discounted Apple Watch 6 will run like a champ anyway.

Also nothing to worry about the battery life of the phone. Apple Watch doesn’t chew through the battery since it used Bluetooth LE to stay connected with the device.

All of the other points you mentioned are very subjective. If you’re not a Watch person and you feel like you may regret then don’t buy it. Basically if you’re in doubt then you’re not torn enough to part with the cash, buyers remorse is a thing for sure. If you get any type of free return period in your country then try the watch out for some time and you can decide if you like it enough to keep it or not.

I wanted a SS and unfortunately it’s cellular only. You don’t need to activate the cellular to buy it if it’s a good deal.

Thank you so much for your deep dive into this issue. It’s very helpful to see your points and explanations.

40% off is a stellar deal. Get it. You may be able to sell it for what you paid at the 7. That is if you choose to upgrade.

I ordered them. I will try them and if I don’t like it, I will sell it with small investment. And maybe I will like them. 🙂

I went with the SE and I'm happy with it, if you never owned any Apple Watch you're going to like it, the differences are minor and I don't think the new watch will have anything extraordinary to show.

Too late. Already ordered Series 6 because in our country, the price was just 20% more than SE. It doesn’t makes sense to buy SE.

Well I’m using Apple Watch Series 6 for a straight second day. Only not sure about wearing while sleeping, still I love them very much. Quite suprisingly very happy about that purchase.

I am trying to decide which to buy. The Apple Watch 6 or wait for the 7. I am not a watch guy. Never was. But I want to buy my first Apple Watch for the health benefits. Being able to check 02 levels, pulse & heart beat irregularities on the 6 finally sold me. There is rumor that the 7 may add the ability to check glucose levels, but this hasn’t been confirmed. Would be great tho. I also heard that the 7 may change form factor & get a better battery life. I don’t care about the form factor, but a longer battery life is always good. So i am on the fence until i hear more solid news.

It's always like this: if you want (need or be ablet to) buy something, the best is to buy. It depends to you how much of the rumors would be true eventually. For me personally going to Series 6 as my first AW is very good feeling and I don't have a problem with battery. But some rumors are saying that new AW Series 7 will be in new design and maybe there will be a new sensor. Honestly, now I don't care - I waited for a longer time and I think I'm good with 6 for a longer time. 🙂

Great choice. I don't wear my watch while I sleep anymore because the data is mostly useless (for me). I ended up letting my gym membership lapse for the first time in almost 15 years and have been using Fitness+ and it's just made me love the watch that much more. I don't use it for notifications so it's really more of a fashion accessory with the added benefit of 24/7 heart monitoring.

Nice purchase and good to hear you like your watch. The AW is a tricky sell, most people without watches I speak to are not convinced they'd like it, any one I know that has taken the plunge has been a convert! I had one for 2 years before I bought my wife one, she could never see the appeal but now it is her favourite device!!

As for AW6 v 7, always tempting to wait for new tech but there has not been major leaps in functionality for a few years. AOD was the only major change for me - nothing else was a huge step change. e.g. the ECG I had to have it.. used it a few times, turns out I am not having a heart attack - rarely use it now. Blood oxygen levels... again.. used it a few times.. my blood does have oxygen in it so don't use it now!

I know there is talk of new sensors because Apple purchased a company specialising in that area but I think it will take a few years to incorporate that into the AW.
