My dad is looking for a new phone and considering the iPhone SE, should I tell him to wait until the 7 comes out in a couple of months, or just go for it?

I'm not sure if there will be any changes to the SE as far as price or anything when the iPhone 7 is released... Thoughts?

He has no interest is the 6s or 7 or I would tell him to wait for sure.

As long as he is fine with using the SE from a screen size perspective, I say go for it. Make sure he uses the SE, 6s, and 6s+ in person before deciding, that way he can test them all and see what form factor and screen size works best for him.

I doubt the SE will drop in price when the 7 is announced, so I would say go for it.

When the iPhone 7 is released this fall, the iPhone 6s will have a price drop, and the price will be almost identical to the SE. I say wait for it. It's fact.

iPhone 6s > SE, especially with the price. But if you were to get one now, SE is the better choice because it's cheaper.

I'm waiting this fall to decide

If he doesn't want iPhone 6s and 7, then get him SE.

One of my main reasons with getting iPhone 7 is Apple is finally removing that stupid physical home button. Raise to wake + capacitive home button means no more broken home buttons from wear and tear and I can finally turn off that annoying Assistive Touch.

Double tap to wake is one of the best things ever LG brought to the Android world in 2013. LG copied it from the Nokia N9 in 2011. If no double tap to wake, raise to wake is the next best thing. Apple copied it from the Moto X..

I also use a virtual home button and onscreen volume controls. The less presses with physical buttons, the better for me since those physical buttons will last longer.

Just curious, where has that been noted as a strong possibility. Nice features if true. And more support to us that think the 7s will be a good upgrade from the 6s+.

I can see the SE getting a price drop of around 50. Either that or they'll drop the 16gb and just keep the 64 at the 16 price. I think the price/value factor was an obvious deliberate move and that would shrink with a new iPhone release.

theres nothing saying that apple is removing the physical home button yet.

The iPhone 6s won't drop more than $100, and $550 isn't even close to identical to $400.

OP, if your dad likes the size of the iPhone SE, I say go for it now.
