(and as a side note, remember that "federal money" is money taken from other people and companies through taxation; although you're within your rights to use student aid money as allowed, and there are valid reasons to spend tax money to support students, please don't forget who earned it in the first place)

Yes the "federal money" that is given to me is paid by the taxpayer’s money and yes I have paid my taxes every year. If I was just going to school for the money and blowing it on weed or something that is not school related then yes, you would have a valid point (yes I know of a few people that do spend the school money on dope, but I do not take school lightly). But since all of my books are on pdf and not hard copy, I need something with a full keyboard to make notes in my books (sorry my MacBook Pro is not cutting it for me). I have looked at the other e-readers and for what I want to do; they will not meet my needs. I am not getting the iPad just to play games on or watch movies (that is what my iPhone is for that I bought with my own money and not the schools). I will be using the iPad for 80% reading my textbooks and 10% checking mail and 10% used for surfing the web for school related items. If I want to chat, check sports scores, and or blog, that is what my iMac or MacBook Pro are for.

Right now I am carrying a 3.78 GPA (4.0 is nothing but A's if you are unsure of what a GPA [grade point average] is) for the past three and a half years. So I am not just a kid trying to get some cool big boy toys, but something that will help me with my studies and further my education.

If you need it now, buy it now -- I would recommend buying a used one on craigslist or similar to minimize the cost of ownership if you later choose to move to an ipad2. Thats what I did in January.

I have thought of buying on off craigslist or e-bay, but I was with a local law enforcement department for a while and I have seen to many things sold on second hand website such as the one already named that were stolen. That is my only hang up on getting it third hand, possession of stolen property. Not a fun charge

PS
Deeddawg I am not trying to start a fight, I just wanted to show that I am not using the money for non school related items. I tried sending you a PM, but I am still a newbie and cant do that just yet.

My comment about "federal money" was in no way meant as a value judgement of your intended use of the funds. I am sorry that it apparently came across in that way. It was a reminder, more for anyone else reading, of where "federal" money comes from originally.

I understand your position: My primay use for my iPad is school related also; I am in grad school part time while working a demanding professional job that includes some travel. Much easier to read and annotate a stack of PDFs on my iPad than hauling them on paper. (I like the Noterize app) [Edit: I switched to PDF Expert and although more expensive, it smokes Noterize in terms of speed of handling PDFs)

Good point on Craigslist/eBay. It is for that reason that I prefer it come with the box and other stuff. No guarantees, but it lessens the chances of it being stolen property. There are also the refurbished units from apple.com if you want to be 100% sure.

I was unsure if you were or were not coming off that way. I only made that statement to clear the air. I am sorry if I came back to strong. I am new to this forum and I would like to stick around a little but longer before I am next on the banned list.
