Does anyone know if I can order an iPhone X with a CC and then when it arrives bring it in and “return” it to rebuy on IUP?

I don't think so.
I think the online order are managed by online store department, and retailing is a different department. so you can not just return and rebuy the same physical device... your device paid with CC must be shipped back.

but it was couple years ago, not sure if they have changed the policy.

I think it should work. You can return an online order at a retail Apple Store. When you rebuy the phone, they might have to give you a different phone though. I'm not sure.

I was able to switch from CC to Apple Upgrade Program and yes, you can return and re-buy the same device as I did just that at the Apple Store last year.

hmmm... it wasn't the case when I bought my mini4...
do you know if your case is an exception or it's the general rule how they handle it now?

I'm pretty sure you *CAN* return it and buy another one as long as it's within return period. but the stock may be the problem. they probably won't have one in stock when you just walk into a store... I assume that's why OP asked

You definitely can return an item purchased on apple.com directly to the apple store of your choice. Same goes for when you purchase an apple product from the Apple store and you opt to have them ship it to your home, those you can return to store or return it via Fedex or UPS to the apple's warehouse.

I believe as long as you keep it sealed they mark it as unopened. Which goes back to their inventory list ready to sell. Whereas if you open it and take it to the store, they have to mark those as opened item and those can't be repurchased once marked and they get sent back to headquarters no matter what.

thats 100% right. but the problem is not about returning, is rebuying. what we are discussing is if one can rebuy the physical device he just returned. or does have to be a different physical device.

Oh I think I get it. If you never open the phone before you go to the store, they can resell it to you after the return. But if you open it, then they won't be able to resell it.

Pretty much yes. Just don't unbox it. I was at an apple store and there is a way to do this but it is tricky but possible.

so do you have any specific information on the process? like what should I tell the apple stuff to do?
