We don't know all the details of the custom for iMac 5500 XT but the RX is PCIe 4.0 and is hamstrung by PCIe 3.0 a bit in some cases (iMac still PCIe 3.0) here some examples in games
but I don't know how it looks like in other cases like video editing, anyone has some insight?

A mid to low tier gpu is not going to reach the limits of PCI-E 3.0. Current hight end cards are only just starting to reach the limits.

I agree that even a Nvidia RTX 2080ti (the $1,200 card) only requires PCI-E 3.0, so agree that a mid to low tier GPU isn't really going to need PCI-E 4.0. It probably can run in a PCI-E 4.0 slot but you aren't going to see any gains as it won't be using the full bandwidth of PCI-E 3.0, so I'm not sure what the video is talking about. About the only thing that can utalise PCI-E 4.0 at the moment is some very fast SSD drives, though that may change with the next generation of graphics cards.

Lol.

Don't believe every YouTuber.

A GPU, for "normal" usage is far from being bottlenecked by PCI-Express 3.0.

We are advancing to PCI-E 4.0 because of Machine Learning boards and Big data. Ampere will be 4.0 because it is used to train models with a LOT of data. There's a LOT of data being sent over PCI-E bus. And storage benefits from 4.0 too.

For any normal usage (aka gaming) or video editing or anything like that, this bus isn't solicited to its full potential.

I follow Max Yurev of YT, who regularly tests Macs with Resolve and FCPX. He's just ordered 2 iMacs to put through the paces. He expects them (low and high spec) to beat out his 2019 Mac Pro. I expect his review will be available in about a week.

Would it be nice to have PCI-e 4.0, sure (though in an iMac, we're not going to upgrade anyway so I’m not sure it really matters), but none of the current gen graphics cards take advantage of it — and even in storage, real world benefits are minor unless you’re talking about VERY expensive NVMEs — so I’m not seeing any reason to get upset. Plus, Intel doesn’t support it yet, so it’s moot.

The model(s) he's waiting on don't arrive til the 18th or 19th, so we should hope to see a video late next week ideally.
