I am seeing prices as low as $999 this week for the base 13 inch model. Any reason purchasing now is a bad decision? With these discounts, I can’t imagine that I will lose much if I sell it to buy a 2020 13 inch MBP.

Yeah I think if you need can’t wait then your rationale is a fair one. Another option is just buy something used. Your losses will be less on resale, and you may get a higher performing machine for less money. More risk but you might find one some AppleCare remaining.

The base 1.4 GHz is a good Mac, provided you are OK with 128GB storage. It’s a reasonable upgrade to 256 or 512GB. The quad-core processor is pretty quick.

I don't see why you wouldn't wait for the refresh next year when they dump the butterfly keyboard. Regardless of the discount, I wouldn't subject myself to the trouble of owning a MacBook with unreliable keyboard that will cause me headache down the road.

Not every hates the butterfly keyboard.

I love the butterfly keyboard. Have it on my 2018 Air. Fast and easy to type on. Zero issues. Plus there's a four-year warranty on the keyboard if I do have any problems, same as 2019 MBP. I say go for the 2019 Pro. You'll enjoy it for sure. Costco's got it for $999, and they double the warranty with the purchase. But you had better hurry; I think they're running out. Sale's been going on for a while now.

Agreed. I've found that dictation works so well that I rarely use the keyboard anymore. I realize that dictation isn't the best method in every case, but it seems to work for most of what I do on my 2019 MacBook Air.

I wouldn’t go anywhere near the current macs now that the 16 is out. Best computer I ever used.

I bought now since I needed a laptop. The 2019 keyboard is better than the 2017 imo. The upcoming 13" will be a 2020 model while the new 16" is 2019. Would be cool if the 13" 2020 starts a new gen but not counting on it.

Yeah, but not all of us have $2400 to buy a 16" Mac. And even if I did, I wouldn't spend it on a computer. My 2018 Air cost me $800, and it does everything I need it to do, really well. But that's me. Not everyone's needs are the same.

If you need it now, BUY it now.
But the more conservative approach would be to hang on until the 13" model with the scissors keyboard arrives, probably March 2020...
