Yeah, the SandForce drives allegedly don't need TRIM because their "garbage collection" thing is somewhat sufficient. Don't know how effective it really is though.

Well, I plan to keep my drive for at least a couple of years, so obviously I need to voice my concerns. ;)

I was speaking with a friend who said that the Intel 320 and 510 are pretty good at garbage collection so I am not worried. You are correct though to want to have an idea as to the longevity of your drives. However, I think that the price of the drives will continue to fall as the reliability goes up. In a year or so we probably would not even be having this discussion. :)
 
The Intel 320, Intel 510, Sandforce, and C300/m4 firmwares all have pretty good garbage collection.
Of those 5, Sandforce is more likely to win out in the long run in terms of minimal speed degradation. Not sure who's more reliable.

But it's highly likely you won't notice at all, unless you're hosting a majorly high-traffic database server. Like eBay. Or NYSE.
