Buying a non-contract iphone

Do they check your credit if you buy a full price iPhone?Because i have none. right now i have a nexus one i bought non contract on tmobile?
 
Unless they force you to activate in the store I'm going to guess not. If you activate an account on AT&T, even without a subsidy and no contract, they will pull your credit.
