Buying a used imac Diagnostics Checklist.

    I just thought we could gather somewhere any ideas of what to look for in a used (warranty expired) imac so as to be as sure as one can that they haven't bought a lemon and they are not in for bad surprises.

    Are there some diagnostic tools in terms of software?

    Can you run a battery of tests to it to see how it responds?

    What's the major cause of worry or failure?

    Any ideas welcome.

    hey dj, thanks so much for the reply but I didn't quite catch you drift? You mean not a lot of people are under apple care?

    Btw, I had high hopes with your link but it doesn't load up. :(

    Update, I am trying to figure out my new white 24" imac that I bought via ebay and I get this:


    Can anyone help....can I register for applecare, I thought I couldnt once the time window is off....


    Ah ok I get it, dj, you mean to tell me that anyone with an applecare plan can "enable" me to get this diagnostic tool...ok thanks!
