hello

I want to buy family member an iPhone, I bought them an iPhone 6s Plus but had a lot of issues with returning the phone, it was faulty but I finally got my money back so decided I would buy her a slightly newer version than the iPhone 6s Plus, on eBay I have found a pre-owned red 64gb iPhone XR for £629, the phone retails for £750 so I am saving £121 if I buy the iPhone the only downside the phone has some light scratching to the back glass and screen. My question is, is this a good deal and does light scratching really matter for this price? Appreciate any advice and help, thank you

The back would matter to me much less than the front since I put a case on the back.

That said be careful on eBay as you could run into issues with phones being blacklisted etc.

Swappa us a safer bet but I'm not sure if you have that option in your country .

Thanks for your reply, doesn’t look like I can use swappa in the U.K., but appreciate your advice. Are there any checks I can do to see if blacklisted?

You can get the serial number from the seller and ask Apple to verify it’s not listed as stolen etc. However it could get blacklisted after you buy it.
I’d not think the risk is worth it. Have you checked Apple for refurbished units?

Unfortunately Apple doesn’t seem to sell any refurb units on their website, I am glad I asked you guys first as I never knew the iPhone could be blacklisted going to leave it and look in to trusted retailers selling refurb units.

I think buy from a reputable xr eBay dealer. There are a few here in the USA. I’m talking about reviews of over hundreds of reviews and 100% rating. That could be a safe bet. And if it’s too good to be true it probably is. The discounts on used xr I’m good shape is around 100-120 dollars right now in great shape, near new condition.

Keep an eye on Apple. They will list them as they come available.

I have found an iPhone X not XR refurb, it’s from a store called music magpie, they have good reviews and are trusted, it’s condition is good which they describe as “This product has moderate signs of wear and tear but has been fully tested and is in great working order.” so it probably has a few marks, and the phone costs £615, does this sound like a good deal, and does a few little marks matter? Thank you guys!

Might as well save up your money and get a new one.

I don’t understand refurbs or getting old devices, yes, I get that it’s cheaper, but in the long run you’re going to be using a phone that’s a paperweight since someone selling probably stole it, or blacklisted, etc.

I’d rather save up money if i don’t have it yet, and just buy it brand new from the manufacturer and saving any headaches.
