So here is my question - I need a new computer sooner than later and really would like to get a 2016 when they come out in March. What do you think about buying a used older one to hold me over in the meantime? I can then pass it down to my kids (grammar school age) to use when I upgrade. Or should I get a more recent refurbished one from Apple and pass that one down because it will then last longer.

If you think to buy used, where would you suggest? eBay? Craigslist? A 3rd party vendor?

    Thank you!

So the lowest right now for a 13" is $919, and that's from 2012! At that price and for that old model, I feel like I should just buy new.

It would also be helpful for you to know that I am switching from a pc laptop and am not used to these high prices. My husband's laptop just died last week and he bought a refurb lenovo for $300 and it works great. But I have been bitten buy the Apple bug...

I am using a 2012 MBP, which i love. I have a 1TB EVO ssd, 16gb 1600mhz ram Core i5. The machine is a dream boots in just under 12 second read speed is close to 500 and write speed just under 400. The bought the unit for 300 then another 300 for the SSD and 80 for the vengeance ram.

Why are you waiting for the 2016?? What is it that you are expecting that makes the current one a bad choice?? Do you need to run a 5K External screen?? Do you Game and need the best dGPU in the 15 inch?? If the answer to these questions is no then just by the current one it is a brilliant computer and will remain brilliant for years to come.

Fair enough but there is no indication that there will be a gold one, you are probably waiting for something that'll never happen.

You're right, the article does say rumored colors. Maybe Apple will announce details about new MBPs being released in March 2016 sometime in October (as the article says), but then I wouldn't hold my breath. Apple can be stingy with information about their plans.
